11 Years of Water Safety

IUP geography and chemistry faculty and students will test water at Beaver Run Reservoir in Westmoreland County for an 11th year through a contract with the county’s municipal authority. They began testing in 2011 in response to concerns about Marcellus shale drilling near the reservoir, a source of drinking water for nearly 130,000 residents. IUP physics faculty and students have tested air quality at the site under a separate contract since 2015.
