Meet our team with a mini Q&A!

Jenna Taylor

Dr Jenna Taylor is a Lecturer in Clinical Exercise Physiology at The University of Queensland, and recently completed a postdoctoral fellowship in the United States at the Mayo Clinic. Broadly, her research has focused on the effect of exercise training and intensity on improving cardiovascular and brain health. With a clinical background in cardiac rehabilitation, an important focus of her work is translating research into clinical practice.

What is your favourite thing about your role?
I love being able to do a variety of research. I enjoy a mix of clinically focused research in cardiac rehabilitation settings, as well as heading up a dedicated exercise and ultrasound laboratory for more experimental, mechanistic research.
What are you working on at the moment?
A 7-year follow-up study of the patient cohort from the randomised controlled trial I conducted during my PhD. It involves mixed methods, with some qualitative interviews related to patient perceptions of exercise training and factors influencing long-term behaviour change.
Why is this project especially interesting or important to you?
I spent 12-months with these patients during my PhD and developed an incredible rapport. It’s been extremely rewarding to connect with them again after so long and hear their perspectives and experiences during and following cardiac rehabilitation.
What do like most about SOLVE-CHD?
I’m new to the SOLVE-CHD but enjoyed connecting with the team at the ACRA conference. I’m looking forward to working with the team to enhance cardiac rehabilitation and secondary prevention of CHD on a national level.
What is a recent achievement you’re proud of?
I recently received a generous donation from a previous research participant, to support my research program. They expressed what a wonderful experience they had participating and were grateful for the research I had been doing.
What do you like to do outside of research?
I enjoy spending time with my husband and 9-month old golden retriever, as well as family and friends. I also enjoy travelling (especially snowboarding trips) and playing hockey.

Memory and thinking challenges after heart disease diagnosis

Join us on Tuesday 24 September for an online seminar led by Joseph Weddell, a SOLVE-CHD PhD candidate, associate lecturer, and clinical nurse specialist with a background in cardiac intensive care. His research focuses on barriers to education and support after heart attack, for example, in people experiencing “brain fog” and spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD), and potential support strategies.
