The Y has always been a special place for Whitney, and it became even more crucial when she was diagnosed with brain cancer. "We've been through so much these past few years with my cancer recovery and managing symptoms from treatment. With two kids now, the Y has been instrumental to our family. When I was first diagnosed, my husband Mike stepped up to be my primary caregiver. He appreciates that the gym opens early so he can work out and still be home in time to help with getting the kids ready on days when I'm not feeling well. We both love the indoor track, too, it's perfect for days when I'm not up for intense activity but still need to move."
When asked what makes the Y special to her, Whitney describes it as "amazing."
“The sense of community is truly special; everyone genuinely cares about our children, and they absolutely love the programs here. The kids are eager to come to school every day.”
Whitney and her family enjoy spending quality time together at our Y, staying active as a family. “As a two-time cancer survivor and mother of two, staying physically active is crucial to me," says Whitney. "I'm grateful that I can work out while my children are safe and having fun in the playroom. There's something here at the Y for all of us to enjoy.” Whitney also enjoys all the activities she can enjoy with her family at the Y, like participating in family events and enrolling her children in swim lessons, basketball, and soccer.
Whitney and her family exemplify what makes the Y an integral part of a family’s life. We're grateful to have Whitney and her family as cherished members of our Y community.
