MASON, OH — Mason High School is proud to announce the hiring of CJ Fleming as the new head coach of the Comet Boys Basketball program (pending BOE approval). A rising star in the coaching ranks, Fleming brings a proven track record of leadership, success, and player development to one of Ohio’s most competitive high school basketball programs.
Fleming most recently served as head varsity coach at Stephen T. Badin High School in Hamilton, where he led the Rams to back-to-back district championships, including a regional appearance in his first season. He compiled a 35-18 record over two years and was named GCL Co-Ed Coach of the Year following the 2024 season.
“Coach Fleming is a dynamic leader who understands how to build a team culture rooted in hard work, accountability, and growth,” said Scott Stemple, Mason High School Athletic Director. “He’s not only a great basketball mind but an educator who truly connects with student-athletes.”
A Cincinnati native, Fleming was a four-year varsity player and three-year captain at La Salle High School, where he played under his father, longtime Ohio coaching legend Dan Fleming. He went on to have a decorated career at Bellarmine University in Louisville, where he was a three-year team captain, an Academic All-GLVC selection, and the 2022 NCAA Division I Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
In addition to his coaching success, Fleming has served as a dedicated social studies teacher for grades 9-12 at Badin. He previously coached at Oak Hills High School, leading the freshman team to a 17–5 record and serving as a varsity assistant.
“I want to thank Scott Stemple, Ben Brown, and Dr. Cooper for the opportunity to lead the Mason Basketball program,” said Coach Fleming.
“I am incredibly thrilled to get started and thankful to be in one of the best conferences in the state, in the GMC,” continued Fleming. “With a big returning core from last year, we are going to get to work immediately to uphold the standard and culture of Mason Basketball. I could not be more excited to be a part of Mason Basketball. Go Comets!”
Coach Fleming will officially begin his role this spring, with off-season training and program planning underway.
