January 2025 marked the inaugural Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Treatment Month, an initiative by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and promote treatment for substance use disorders. The month was divided into four themed weeks, each focusing on different aspects of SUD treatment and recovery. Here’s a recap of the events and activities that took place during this groundbreaking month.
Week 1: Starting Fresh
Aligned with New Year’s resolutions and initiatives like Dry January, this week focused on encouraging individuals to turn over a new leaf by stopping unhealthy habits and adopting healthier ones. SAMHSA hosted a webinar on January 8th, "Substance Use Disorder 101," which provided an overview of SUD, its impact, and the importance of seeking treatment.
