Class of 2023 Selects Outstanding Educator and Mentor of the Year Awardees Diane Belfiglio, former Assistant Professor of Art, and Studio Coordinator, who passed away this spring, will be receiving the Outstanding Educator Award posthumously. The Mentor of the Year is Julie Thornberry, Assistant Director of Professional Academic Advising. Selected by the graduating class, these awards are two of Walsh University’s most distinguished honors bestowed upon faculty, staff and coaches. Honorees are recognized annually at the President’s Dinner, Commencement Weekend.

Walsh University Featured in Inaugural Issue of the Catholic Echo Walsh University is featured in the inaugural issue of the Catholic Echo this month, a publication of the Youngstown Diocese which has replaced the long-running Catholic Exponent. The article titled Walsh seeks to be brothers, sisters in faith to persecuted Iraqi Christians by Marly Reichert, tells the compelling story of Walsh’s developing relationship with Mar Bashar Matti Warda, Archbishop of Erbil, Iraq, this year’s Commencement speaker, and the Catholic University in Erbil. National Searches Underway for Vice President for Philanthropy and Deans Three national searches are currently underway for administrative positions for Cav Nation. Walsh University has enlisted the help of Hyatt-Fennel executive search firm combined with cross enterprise search committees on campus to fill the positions of Vice President of Philanthropy, Dean for the School of Arts, Sciences, and Education, and Dean for the DeVille School of Business. The Vice President of Philanthropy will lead all fundraising efforts for the University including a planned Capital Campaign set to launch next academic year. The Dean of the School of Arts, Sciences, and Education will oversee the operations and growth of the newly combined school. The Dean of the DeVille School of Business will provide leadership as the school explores new programs overseas and in the domestic markets while continuing to innovate. Interviews for all three searches will be taking place in May and June with announcements for the appointees planned this summer. We look forward to welcoming our new administrative leaders to Cav Nation!

The exhibition "Winning Photographs from the Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival" is now on display at the Goodwill Community Campus in downtown Canton. Be sure to check it out while visiting this amazing community resource! Thanks to Goodwill Industries of Greater Cleveland and East Central Ohio, Inc. for giving the students in the Museum Studies program Exhibition Design course the opportunity to design and install this exhibition!

On April 26, senior Biology major, Abby Shockey and Professor of Biology, Dr. Jennifer Clevinger went to Cambridge, OH to accept Walsh University's 5th year Tree Campus USA Award. It was presented to them by the new Region 6 ODNR Urban Forester, Joseph Moeglin ’19. As a student, it was Joe's idea to have Walsh pursue our very first Tree Campus USA award. The Tree Campus USA program recognizes campuses that meet the qualifications of having a Tree Advisory Board, a written Tree Care Plan, celebrate Arbor Day, and have student participation in tree-related service projects.

Dr. Pamela D. Ritzline, PT, MS, EdD, Dean of the School of Behavioral & Health Sciences and Professor of Physical Therapy recently was chosen by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) as a recipient of the Mary Jane Harris Distinguished Service Award. Dr. Ritzline was selected for "having demonstrated extraordinary commitment to the CAPTE accreditation process and to the quality of physical therapy education." Dr. Ritzline was honored at the Spring 2023 CAPTE meeting on April 25, in Alexandria, VA.
