I Don’t Make Monthly Payments to the Fellowship!  (They’re not in my will either.)
By Fellowship Treasurer, Theresa Hannah
Automatic payments from your bank account (EFTs) are an easy way to provide support for our Fellowship’s mission but there are other ways to provide financial support that may fit better into some congregant’s financial life. My spouse, Tom, and I don’t make monthly payments, EFT or otherwise. Instead we make our pledge payment through an annual transfer of stock.
During my working days I purchased stock through payroll deduction. The share value has grown nicely over the years and those gains are taxable when we sell the stock.  However, by transferring shares directly to the Fellowship, we never see the gain, so it is not taxable to us. In addition, we can include the value of the stock transferred in our deduction for charitable contributions. This same system can be used to transfer funds from an IRA or 401K account directly to the Fellowship, including those mandatory withdrawals required after a taxpayer is over 70½. The important thing is that the funds are sent directly to the Fellowship from the organization holding them. If you sell, or withdraw, the funds then write a check to donate the proceeds, you’re still responsible for the tax.
While I love and am grateful to the Fellowship, and I want to see their work continue long into the future, they are not mentioned in my will. Instead I have listed the Fellowship’s Endowment fund as one of the beneficiaries of a life insurance policy I purchased years ago from a college friend. Changing the beneficiary(s) on life insurance, 401K or investment accounts is simple, free and can be done anytime.
Want to learn more about legacy documents – wills, trusts, beneficiary designations? The Fellowship’s Planned Giving Committee will be hosting a FREE Workshop with Estate Planning Attorney Matt Brehmer, of Remley & Sensenbrenner Law Firm, who will share information about how and why you should prepare an estate plan. This workshop is on Sunday, November 11 starting after the second service and will include snacks and childcare.
I have never been a tax expert, so be sure to consult a tax advisor about your personal situation. You should know too that Fellowship Business Administrator, Phyllis Schmitt, is always willing to work with you in the way that works best for your particular situation. Thanks so much for joining me to support our spiritual home!

Life, Death, and Gifts by Rev. Christina Leone-Tracy
Planning for the end of life is not exciting, but it can be incredibly loving and freeing. Sharing your wishes with others is your final gift. Come think about these wishes and plan for these conversations with family (as we perhaps prepare for family gatherings over the holidays). After the second service our Planned Giving Committee is hosting an educational session about the
various ways to prepare your wishes and legacy for the future.

Partner Church Travel Sharing
with Rev. Christina Leone-Tracy and the Partner Church Committee

One of the greatest acts of conscience in the history of Unitarianism was Transylvanian Francis David's refusal to obey the government's request to keep his faith static. He insisted on following his conscience and evolving his faith, and ended up a martyr because of it! Join Fellowship members to hear about their very recent pilgrimage to Deva, Romania, the site of David's martyrdom 450 years ago, and their reconnection with our partner church in Deva.

People of Color
We recognize that as a majority-white congregation, it can often feel isolating for People of Color who love our theology, but might not identify with some other aspects of the community. Join the UU People of Color (UU PoC) small group once a month or more as we gather to have fun and discuss topics that we can identify with. This is a great way to meet and connect with people and avoid isolation.
We usually meet every second Sunday of the month at the Fellowship, other times we meet at various locations in the Fox Valley to have dinner and support PoC/LGBTQ/disabled-bodied owned (and PoC/LGBTQ/disabled-friendly) businesses. PoC of all ages, especially teens, are more than welcome to join us!  Email UUPOC@gmail.com for more details.
Senior Social meets Tuesday, November 13 at noon. We'll have a regular lunch gathering with games to follow for anyone wanting to stay. Games are fun and easy; i.e. Apples to Apples, Balderdash, etc. Bring a light lunch and if you just want to do games, come at 1:00. Check out our friendly faces at the Connections Corner Sunday between services. Friends are always welcome to join in for conversation and treats.
Music and Imagery with Sara Devine, Board Certified Music Therapist
Tuesday, November 13 at 6:30 pm

Sometimes we feel lost and unsure where to turn. We may feel like we've "talked things to death" and we still aren't comfortable with how we feel. If we can learn to trust ourselves, we can find the answers within. Music & Imagery (MI) and Guided Imagery through Music (GIM) are opportunities of a different therapeutic style to gain a new perspective of your psyche! Utilizing carefully selected music, depending upon what has been discussed and the desire of the session, the music and the therapist become "co-facilitators" and offer a different technique to get “a glimpse of the psyche." The best part of this style of therapy is there is not a right or a wrong way to image!

After the imagery work is over, the experience is continued on paper, to be able to process, usually through a mandala. MI and GIM can be done on an individual basis or in a group setting. Join us to learn more about this style of therapy and to have an opportunity to experience this powerful method of imagery as therapy. Individuals who may benefit from this style of therapy are those who may struggle with anxiety, depression, grief and loss, those wanting to work on self-care and build self-esteem, those searching for a purpose and many more!

UU Night Out: November 13, 6:00 pm
Join us in November on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at Paninoteca Latin American Restaurant on Richmond St. in Appleton. The space is not fancy but the food is quite delicious! And the people will be fantastic, of course. All UU's and friends of the Fellowship are welcome. Just please let Cindy Darling know you are coming (or not) so she can give this little restaurant a correct number for the reservation. Contact Cindy via email, phone or text: kitsudarling@gmail.com or 920.205.9635.
Appleton Wellspring Wednesday: Mysticism- Touching the Divine
with Chester Behnke
November 14, 6:30-8:00 pm
The essence of mysticism is when the inner self both reaches out and reaches in. Come for an evening of exploration as I share this path with you. This will include how I came to mysticism, how it relates to my other beliefs, such as reincarnation, and my love of history. There will also be time for small group discussion and a brief meditation.
Drawing from our first Source, which states the “direct experience of that transcending mystery and wonder, affirmed in all cultures, which moves us to a renewal of the spirit and openness to the forces which create and uphold life,” favorite program facilitator and Fellowship member Chester Behnke will share his journey on what the source means to him.
As always, childcare will be available, but please sign up at the Sign Up Spot or email cyndi@fvuuf.org.

Justice Connection Saturday: Immigration Justice
November 17th; 4:30-6:30 pm
Childcare will be available; No sign up required
Laureen Anderson-Stepanek, an immigration lawyer, will present on allyship and substantive steps we can take in the work of supporting immigrant rights vs. the "feel good" response. We will also hear from the leadership of Unidos Por Un Futuro Mejor, a local immigrant rights and education group. The Fox Cities SURJ Rapid Response team will present on meaningful ways we as bystanders can respond to emergency situations and disrupt detainments. The Fellowship Shared Sanctuary Committee will provide education on the sanctuary movement and ways to be involved in this effort at the Fellowship.
Laureen Anderson-Stepanek has spent her whole legal career as an immigration lawyer concentrated her practice in complex immigration matters since 2002. As Ms. Anderson-Stepanek's practice has grown she has expanded into the areas of family and removal defense, specifically those related to criminal issues and appellate matters, including to the federal court.
