Winter 2020

"Go Outside!"

During the winter months, Vitamin D deficiency is very common among both Children and adults.  When it's not unbearably cold, getting your Children outside is one of the best things you can do for them.  Not only does going outside mean getting exercise, but it also means getting the best form of Vitamin D.

Vitamin D is so important for children (and adults).  It helps boost the immune system, helps build strong bones and teeth!  It reduces the risk of cavities and helps promote insulin regulation. Studies have found that Type 1 Diabetes, Multiple Sclerosis and Rheumatoid arthritis are all reduced with adequate levels of Vitamin D in children.  Bundle your children up and get them outside!

No Sew Sock Penguin

You will need:
  • 1 Black Sock
  • 1 Sock in color for the hat
  • Rice
  • Rubber Bands
  • White and Orange Felt
  • Ribbons
  • Glue Gun
  • Felt glue
  • Markers or paint
  • Scissors
Start by filling the black sock with rice.  When you are happy with the amount of rice and rough shape of the soon to be sock penguin, tie a rubber band at the top.
Now take another rubber band and place it just above the middle sock to separate the body and the head.
Cut the excess sock.  You can secure the top by adding some glue from the glue gun.
Cut a white oval shape out of the white felt and glue it with felt glue to the front of the penguin.
Cut a small beak out of the orange felt and glue it onto the head.  Draw two black eyes with a black marker.
Add ribbon to make a scarf.
Lastly, cut one colorful sock and roll it a bit to get the hat shape and place it on the top of the penguin.   Enjoy!
