Technology
At Elysian we ask that student’s cell phones are off and away during the school day.
There are very few times when phones are used in a middle school classroom during the day. Usually it’s to take a quiz or for use during a seminar.
The link below has a Q and A with an experienced educator who has ideas to share. Those of you who have children in the early grades who may not yet have a cell phone, take heed and plan carefully for the future. Those of you with children who may already have a cell phone – there are some useful ideas to live by.
Best,
Susan

A Message from Kuumba Teacher Yahaya
Recently, Yahaya Kamate, our wonderful and inspirational Kuumba teacher and part of our extended Elysian family, lost his dear friend and fellow musician, Sheik Fall. Yahaya and several other musicians are taking part in a benefit to help Sheik’s family and for a project near to his heart, a school for special needs in Senegal with his brother Oumar.
“A true legend has been taken away from us,” says Yahaya. “But he touched our hearts and shared things with us as tools to strive. He was a great man. I hope that you will find time to be a part of this journey and join us for a wonderful tribute.”

Food Drive Update

Thank you to everyone for their contributions during the Elysian Charter School Food Drive benefiting the clients of the Hoboken Homeless Shelter.  We delivered two full carloads of food including many boxes of the students' favorite cereals!  Thank you to the ECS climate team for organizing these efforts.

In an effort to build on our support of the shelter, we will be collecting reusable grocery bags for the next two weeks. These bags will allow clients to bring food home and allow you to get rid of some extra bags before the holidays. We will also deliver books to families at the In Jesus Name pantry.

We hope that these efforts help others and give children a sense of community and the importance of giving back.

Please make sure your child is dressed warm enough during these upcoming cold days.

We have so many items left in the Lost and Found bin in the main office.
Can't find your child's jacket?? Sweater??  Sweatshirt??

A note about attendance:  The New Jersey State Law is very specific about school attendance.  By law, children are expected to be in school every day unless they are ill.  There is no room in the law or regulations to excuse any children who have prior plans. We must mark all children absent who are not in attendance.
