SBCC Foundation Spring Forward! Gala

The Santa Barbara City College Foundation hosted nearly 300 guests at its Spring Forward! Gala on the Great Meadow of the West Campus, raising more than $450,000. Career Center advisor encouraged by gender pay gap fading
According a Pew Research Center study, the tri-county region of Santa Barbara, Oxnard-Ventura and San Luis Obispo has seen a narrowing of the gender pay gap, noting that women and men aged 16-29 earn about the same average salaries, roughly $32,000 per year. In a recent interview with the Pacific Coast Business Times, SBCC Career Center advisor Janna Mori said “Equity is a huge conversation on campus, and fair wages and equal employment fall under that umbrella as well.” Read the article.

At their meeting on June 16, the Santa Barbara Community College District Board of Trustees announced that María L. Villagómez has been selected to serve as the new Vice President of Academic Affairs, and Paloma Arnold has been selected as the new Vice President of Student Affairs. Read the press release.

SBCC welcomes new Director of AthleticsAt their meeting on June 16, the Santa Barbara Community College District Board of Trustees announced that LaDeane Hansten has been selected to serve as the new Director of Athletics. She is scheduled to begin July 1. Hansten comes to SBCC after a lifetime of coaching and teaching, most recently as the athletic director at Columbia College in Sonora, California. Student-athletes honoredSBCC student-athletes Sam Pinto (men’s soccer) and Megan Ditlof (women’s water polo) have been named Scholar-Athlete Team honorable mentions by the National Alliance of Two-Year College Athletic Administrators (NATYCAA). Out of an estimated 25,000 student-athletes who participate in California each year, there are only 16 CCCAA student-athletes represented on the 2022 NATYCAA Scholar-Athlete Team. SBCC was one of just eight schools with multiple selections. Read more...

SBCC beach volleyball head coach Ariana Garner has been named the 2022 Western State Conference (WSC) Coach of the Year, while the duo of Emma Crabbe and Kelissa Lemoine has taken home Most Valuable Pair of the Year honors and a share of the WSC Champions award.
In all, the Vaqueros claimed a whopping 40 percent of the conference awards, as three other Vaquero pairs were named to the All-WSC First Team and another made the Second Team. Read more...

All-WSC First Teamer Brycyn Gossett signs with Westmont
Several months after representing SBCC men’s basketball on the All-Western State Conference First Team, sophomore forward Brycyn Gossett is staying local and heading to Westmont to continue his collegiate playing career. “Brycyn embodied what it means to be a Vaquero over the last three years,” head coach Devin Engebretsen said. “We are going to miss him immensely, but Westmont is gaining a great young man and player for their program.” Read more...

Track and Field Vaqueros earn All-WSC honorsThe SBCC track and field team had 14 student-athletes earn 2022 All-WSC honors, with 13 individuals and a quartet of four-person relay teams claiming All-Conference status.
