Student Donates Stem Cells to Save a Life

Saving a life was not what James Rinello, KSAS '25, would have expected to be doing at the start of 2023. But at the end of last year, James received a call from Be The Match, part of the National Marrow Donor Program, telling him he was a match for a cancer patient. James jumped at the chance to help.

He had joined the Be The Match Registry in the spring when the JHU Football team sponsored a recruiting drive to add donor names to the registry. Most of the time, donors like James are able to donate stem cells through a non-surgical, outpatient procedure. As word has spread, James has appreciated hearing stories of how people have been touched by a marrow donor.

The Leadership Engagement & Experiential Development (LEED) office is excited to host the Spring 2023 Student Involvement Fair from 2–5 p.m. on February 3 at the Ralph S. O'Connor Recreation Center. Students are invited to begin their student engagement journey and connect with student organizations and university departments to enrich their Hopkins experience. Please encourage your student to register to attend in Hopkins Groups.
