The student projects and demonstrations are quite impressive!
During the month of January, students and staff at Operation Homework afterschool sites hosted Winter Showcases. Students presented impressive science projects, including one demonstrating bacteria under a microscope and another using a two-liter soda bottle with a deflated balloon to illustrate lung function. One student also identified parts of the human body, including internal organs. The attendees showed support and recognized the hard work that went into each project.

The student showcases occur at the end of each semester and at
other times throughout the year. We invite you to join us for a showcase
to see for yourself the brilliance of our students! Tell others about us
and invite your neighbors, friends, and employers so they can watch
these future employees who are learning to present their best selves while
getting support with STEAM subjects, mentoring, tutoring, socio-emotional
learning, and character development.

Feedback from Students & Parents |
We visited showcases at Southwest Middle School on December 18th and
Hairston Middle School on December 19th. When interviewed, parents and
students expressed their enthusiasm for the program, noting they enjoy
learning and value interactive discussions that enhance their understanding.
Parents generally have positive impressions of Operation Xcel, appreciating
the STEAM-focused afterschool program and the social opportunities it offers.
One father noted that his daughter's conversations about her day have
increased since joining, while a mother shared that her once-shy daughter
has become more 'talkative' and made new friends.
Parents noted that their children need help with homework and projects but
had not informed teachers about it. We recommend parents encourage their
kids to communicate their needs to teachers, as Operation Xcel provides
support for students, but they must stay in touch with their educators.
