TANG INSTITUTE AT ANDOVER | February 2021

Dear Friends of the Tang Institute,
There has been sun on campus the past few days — something of a rarity for February in Andover. We’ve had most of the senior class on campus this month as well. To me, both of these events are heartening, signs that we are again moving towards warmth, growth, and rejuvenation.
Our work at the Institute continues to impact learning on and off campus. Our faculty is immersing itself in hyflex teaching approaches to prepare for the spring term. They will draw in part upon the research of our teacher coaches, who recently created resources based on their interviews with Andover teachers and a survey of hyflex teaching at other schools. Our Economics students have continued their work using materials from Harvard’s Opportunity Insights project; we will share some of their findings publicly on the website in the coming months. And just this week, two faculty members of the Workshop team and a student participant, Tessa Conrardy ‘20, gave a very well-received presentation at the NAIS Annual Conference. Session participants were excited by the dynamic and interdisciplinary approach of the Workshop as well as the ways in which this program reimagines the basic building blocks of schooling.
I want to close this note by remembering our colleague and friend, Emily Trespas. Emily brought a sense of wonder and curiosity to the classroom and her daily life. The many warm tributes she has received attest to the lasting impact she had on generations of Andover students. We miss her very much, even as we acknowledge that our worlds are brighter for having known her.
Sincerely yours,
Andy Housiaux Currie Family Director
