Service updates for during the break and after break testing information
Good morning,
We hope that you are staying warm and dry today. Below are some important announcements regarding residence hall acces, dining hours, and changes to the shuttle schedule during Spring Break as well as testing requirements when you return to campus after the break.
Residence Hall Access During Spring Break
All residence halls will remain open and fully accessible throughout Spring Break (March 12-20) . Access will remain on your Mason ID and you are able to access your space throughout the break. Our desks will remain open throughout the break, with Piedmont remaining open 24/7 and Eisenhower will have limited hours. Should a resident need assistance and the Eisenhower Desk be closed, a sign will be posted with a number residents can call for assistance.
Dining Hours
Please note that due to the anticipated lower occupancy throughout the break, meal plans will end on Friday, March 11th at 5:00pm and resume at 4:00pm on Sunday, March 20. Please be sure to check out the Spring Break Hours of Operation for dining locations that will be open throughout the break.
Shuttles and Transportation
University shuttles will have adjusted schedules throughout the break. Changes to the shuttle schedule can be found here. Residents who have reserved a seat on one of the Spring Break Regional Shuttles can find information regarding pick-up and drop off here. COVID Testing Required for All Residential Students After Spring Break
To help prevent the spread of COVID on campus, all Residential Students (vaccinated and unvaccinated) are required to participate in COVID testing the week after spring break. Testing is available by appointment or walk-in basis; you may select any day the week of March 21 to 25 to take your test. Even if you test during spring break (March 14 to 18), you must take a test March 21 to 25.
For more information about Mason COVID testing process, test site hours, scheduling, and locations please visit Mason’s COVID Testing Webpage. If you traveled or participated in large group activities over spring break, be cognizant of the incubation period and plan your test accordingly (i.e., 5 days after potential exposure).
Although COVID precautions have been relaxed, the COVID pandemic is not over; there is still a risk that you can contract COVID on or off campus even if you have already had COVID illness.  As you begin planning your spring break activities consider these precautions to help prevent the spread of COVID: practice good hygiene by washing your hands frequently and getting plenty of rest, consider wearing a mask in crowded environments, wear a mask when using public transportation, monitor your health for COVID symptoms, and remain home if you feel unwell.
End of Semester Closing Reminder
The residence halls will close to all students not approved for extended stay on Thursday, May 19 at Noon. Due to the short timeframe between the halls closing and summer classes starting on Monday, May 23, we are only able to approved graduating seniors and students with a summer housing assignment for extended stay.
Graduating seniors will be eligible to stay until 6:00pm on the day of their graduation ceremony. Graduating seniors whose ceremony is at 6:00pm will be eligible to stay until 9:00am the next day.
Students leaving for spring break are encouraged to home any items that are no longer needed for the remainder of the semester in order to reduce the number of items that need to be packed up for move out.
We hope that you have a safe and relaxing Spring Break. If you have questions about Mason’s COVID testing requirements, please contact COVID19@gmu.edu
