Summer Dann Named Director of the LaSTEM Region 2 Capital Area STEM Network Center
Please welcome Summer Dann, Capital Area STEM's new permanent director! Summer holds both a bachelor's and master’s degree in mechanical engineering from LSU. Throughout her career, Summer has designed and implemented a variety of successful STEM programs, both academic and technical at the K-12 and higher education levels. These programs include developing science and engineering camps at LSU for elementary students, the STEM Talent Expansion Program for the LSU College of Engineering, obtaining NCCER accreditation for a technical college, and founding a Career & Technical based high school (CTEC) for the East Baton Rouge Parish School System. She is looking forward to continuing the work of supporting quality STEM education for all and sharing expertise and valued resources to all Region 2 stakeholders.

LSU STEM Pathways Do you want to offer high quality, project-based courses in Biomedical Science, Computing, Digital Design and Emergent Media, and Pre-Engineering? Explore LSU STEM PATHWAYS!
- Earn up to $400 per student/seat in CTE/CDF funding for your district
- Increase your school performance scores by offering courses that include industry based credentials
- Provide students with LSU dual enrollment opportunities
- Offer high school credit courses in middle school
- Engage students early with project-based elementary and middle school STEM modules
Principals should contact stempathways@lsu.edu with questions and all expressing interest will receive a memoradum of understanding by March 15th.

Girl Scouts Louisiana East's B.I.G. Event - April 23
Girl Scouts from around the region will be heading to the 2022 B.I.G. Event in April. Sponsored annually by Louisiana East, the "Believe in Girls event!" is an exciting day of hands-on activities and presentations showcasing organizations which encourage Girl Scout involvement, focusing on education in STEM, healthy living, financial literacy and the great outdoors. From biology to math to engineering, even foreign languages, there's something for everyone. A new offering this year is eSports! If you are interested in learning how an esports team operates or potential career pathways in the esports and video game industry, this is the course for you. Attendees will of course play games, but explore topics like game design, streaming, and pc building, plus many other skills. Learn more.

Quality Science & Math Program Grants (QSM)
Need math, science and STEM materials and equipment? Apply for a QSM Grant - Funds established for the purpose of providing Louisiana public school teachers with non-consumable math, science, and STEM instructional materials and equipment.
- Grants of up to $1,000 are awarded to PK-3 teachers and $1500 to 4-12 teachers
- Proposals for a second round of funding will be accepted anytime from January 24 through March 7.
