Congratulations All Around

Kudos to three sports teams for their outstanding performances in NCAA Division II tournaments: Men’s basketball won the Atlantic Region title and has advanced to the Elite Eight in Evansville, Indiana, this week. Women’s swimming and diving finished 17th in the NCAA championships, and IUP swimmers earned seven individual All-America honors. And, women’s basketball made its seventh straight and 15th overall NCAA tournament appearance, losing by one to Cal U in the Atlantic Regional. Find updates on the IUP Athletics website.

ACHIEVEMENTS
A Composition and Applied Linguistics student from Afghanistan and a Communications Media student from Lebanon bring the total to seven IUP international students that the Institute of International Education has selected for its competitive Emergency Student Fund scholarship awards.
Andrew Yim, assistant director of the Kathleen Jones White Writing Center and a second-year Composition and Applied Linguistics student, discussed his work training tutors and his methods of providing writing feedback in an interview on the Pedagogue podcast.
The Department of Student Affairs in Higher Education has chosen Will Foran, a 2003 program graduate, to receive its 2022 Ronald Lunardini Distinguished Alumni Award. Foran is chief strategy officer at the North American Interfraternity Conference, where he has worked for 14 years. The award is named for SAHE professor emeritus Ron Lunardini ’69.
Two Department of Student Affairs in Higher Education professors spoke at the recent American College Personnel Association convention in St. Louis. Mimi Benjamin presented sessions on student success and faculty-student interaction in learning communities. John Mueller spoke on measuring privileged identity in educational settings.
