DID YOU KNOW

there is an all-day power outage happening today, Tuesday, April 13, until 6 p.m.?

During this time, power to all equipment that is not on the building generator will be lost. This includes computers in offices that may be used remotely and the access control system.

Please make arrangements to ensure you are prepared for the outage and for turning the equipment back on afterward. IT can assist with office computers, if needed.

GRANT OPPORTUNITY: Apprenticeship State Expansion Funding

Through a partnership with the Florida Association for Career and Technical Education (FACTE) and CareerSource Florida, the Florida Department of Education (FDOE) is pleased to continue to support registered apprenticeship program growth and expansion with the announcement of the federally funded Apprenticeship State Expansion (ASE) Grant. We are pleased to inform you that grant information is now posted on the Apprentice Florida website.

These federal ASE Grant funds, in conjunction with the recently awarded state appropriated Pathways to Career Opportunities Grant Program, aim to expand existing registered apprenticeship programs. The grant funds support Florida’s goal to become number one in workforce education by 2030.

Academic Affairs Diversity Speaker Series: How Faculty and Staff can Support Black Students during Times of Racial Upheaval — Wednesday, April 14

Join the UCF Academic Affairs Diversity Taskforce in welcoming Dr. Larry J. Walker, Assistant Professor with the UCF College of Community Innovation and Education, to the Diversity Speaker Series.

Dr. Walker discusses some of his work on the challenges Black college students encounter inside and outside of academic settings. In addition, what steps can faculty and staff take to ensure they flourish?

State Revenue Update — update from Janet D. Owen, Vice President of Government & Community Relations

As hoped, yesterday’s General Revenue Estimating Conference produced some good news about the state’s revenue position - for the new fiscal year beginning July 1, as well as an increase in revenue for the current fiscal year.

While we hold out hope that this news will allow for the release of the 6% holdback in the current year, as well as a much more favorable treatment of the state universities in the upcoming budget negotiations for FY 2021-22, we continue to work diligently on the current budget and policy challenges.

Here is a Politico article covering the results of yesterday’s forecast.

Both chambers are slated to take up their budget proposals today, April 7th, which positions the bills for conference negotiations in the coming weeks after allocations to the various budget sectors are announced.

Tallahassee Update - Week 6

Please find attached a summary of activities in the State Capitol during Week 6 of the 2021 Legislative Session which included the opening round of budget proposals for the 2021-22 fiscal year.

These updates are provided to keep you informed of the major developments in budget and policy issues impacting the state universities as the state legislative session moves toward It's scheduled April 30th conclusion.
