Bridgeport City News | Bill Finch, Mayor
July 18, 2014

On Wednesday, Mayor Bill Finch, Governor Dannel P. Malloy, State Senator Andres Ayala and members of Bridgeport's City Council and Legislative Delegation gathered at the potential home to a second train station in Bridgeport to announce $2.75 million in funds from the state to help move the project forward.
On Wednesday, Governor Dannel P. Malloy announced that the State Bond Commission at its next meeting will approve $2.75 million for the Connecticut Department of Transportation to hire a consultant to complete the engineering, design and environmental permitting to develop the site of the new Barnum Train Station on Bridgeport’s East Side. Click here to read the announcement from the Governor's Office.
Barnum Train Station is a key component to the East Bridgeport Development Corridor to bring jobs, transit-oriented development and economic growth to the East Side and East End neighborhoods.
“We’re making smart investments in the future," said Mayor Bill Finch. "Key investments include the East Bridgeport Development Corridor, which will serve as a catalyst for growth in the city’s East End, East Side, and Mill Hill neighborhoods. This project is already gaining steam. But it will never reach its full potential without a train station nearby. The proposed Barnum Station, which will be the second train station in our state’s largest city, will help ensure the East Bridgeport Development Corridor becomes a place where people want to live and work, and where companies want to invest and hire people. That’s why today’s announcement is so important. Thanks to Governor Malloy, State Senator Ayala, and the rest of our state delegation for securing funds to ensure this project reaches its full potential.”

RYASAP (Regional Youth Adult Social Action Partnership) in Bridgeport with Governor Dannel P. Malloy.

On Tuesday, Governor Malloy and Mayor Bill Finch joined local community leaders, to announce the allocation of $671,250 in Youth Violence Prevention Grants from the state to the Park City.
“We need youth job programs, after school activities, and real opportunities for these kids to be successful. On the other hand, we need a Police Department ready to fight crime and a tough Governor. And that’s exactly what we have,” said Mayor Bill Finch.
Governor Malloy discussed the Youth Violence Prevention grants that the state has awarded to communities across Connecticut, including Bridgeport.
“This is money that goes directly to keeping young people on the right track, getting good grades, and getting help when they need it,” added Governor Malloy. “It’s about making growing up just a little bit safer. It’s about keeping people out of trouble and out of jail. It’s about keeping people safe and alive.”

It’s dance…it’s rhythm…it’s Mikata! Feel your pulse quicken as this powerful Salsa band ignites the stage in a joyful celebration of contemporary Latin music. Mikata, which means “all of us” in Ghana’s Ewe dialect, fuses the musical elements of Puerto Rico, Cuba, Africa and New York to bring you the elegant sounds of classical Salsa music. Each beat of the conga beckons you to take a step closer and become a part of Mikata.
Son 7 knows how to make an impression. This seven-piece band can take you back to the days of Hector Lavoe and bring you forward to the sounds of Coldplay with their unique salsa rendition of Clocks.  Their wonderful combination of Latin Rock and Salsa can get heads turning and bodies moving.
