ADA 27th Anniversary Celebration - July 26
Wednesday, July 26 marks the 27th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Celebrate at the State Capitol in St. Paul. Gathering begins at the Minnesota State History Center at 1:00pm, marching to the capitol at 1:30pm. A rally follows in the Capitol Rotunda at 2:30pm featuring  the band Working Dogs and rapper Young Ant (Antyenette Walker).

Art at the Heart Thrivent Event at Surly - Sept. 7
Save the date for and evening of food, drinks, and friends in support of Upstream Arts! On September 7 from 5:30-8:00pm, the folks at Thrivent Community - West End are hosting a free event at Surly Brewing to benefit our work.

Join the Conversation
Each month in this corner, we share resources related to our ongoing campaign to generate artistic reflection and public conversation about stigma associated with disability.
This month we are sharing the words of Melissa Shang, a middle schooler who wanted more stories that feature protagonists with a disability, without being about disability per se. In short, she wanted books that reflected her own experience, so she co-authored the book Mia Lee is Wheeling Through Middle School. She's featured in a New York Times opinion piece.
As always, we welcome your thoughts via email, Facebook, or Twitter.

Dear Friend,
Through heat waves and summer storms, we are leaping into our new fiscal year like it's a refreshing Minnesota lake. There are several fun upcoming events (with opportunities to support Upstream Arts while partying)! In this issue of The Current, you'll find
  • An invitation to Paul's Pals Golf Classic and Party, at which Upstream Arts is the Fund-A-Dream beneficiary,
  • A peek at our busy summer camp schedule,
  • Gratitude and a new goal for our new fiscal year,
  • Save the date for the Art at the Heart event,
  • Announcement of the 27th Anniversary of the ADA celebration march and rally.
With abundant thanks for all that you do!
Julie, Matt, Bree, and everyone at Upstream Arts

Paul's Pals Golf Classic and Party - July 24
Upstream Arts is the beneficiary of Fund-A-Dream at the upcoming Paul's Pals Golf Classic and Gala on Monday, July 24.
Enjoy a beautiful day on one of Minnesota’s premier private golf courses, then stay for Paul’s Party, an early evening event complete with hors d'oeuvres and live auction. Fancy a round of golf? Registration is still open. You can also attend the party without golfing and bid on fabulous items like tickets to Hamilton in Chicago or VIP treatment at the Packers/Vikings game (including a private plane ride to Lambeau Field).
Paul's Pals is a nonprofit founded in honor of Paul Adelman and dedicated to funding projects that promote inclusion and accessibility for individuals with disabilities.

The Art of Summer Camp
Summer means camp! There's no better time to create art with friends. We're skipping the mosquito bites and bringing our programs to an array of week-long camps, from Eden Prairie Parks and Rec to the MN State Academy for the Blind. At the end of July we'll travel to Milwaukee for the Rainbow Day Camp with the Harry & Rose Samson Jewish Community Center. In August we'll bring arts learning to the Wayzata Community Church Summer Camp as part of their respite program.
Gratitude & The Work Ahead
July marks the beginning of our new fiscal year, which means our coffers reset to $0 and we start again from scratch. With your help, we begin a new goal of $100,000 in individual gifts.
