From screens to sun
Since closing our office doors on March 13, 2020, Upstream Arts has conducted all of our classes - over 100 classes and residencies - online only. Now, after 15 months of working, learning, and practicing creativity together remotely, we're starting to experiment with what in-person classes could look like now.
In May, Upstream Arts collaborated with longtime partner MSS to hold outdoor masked classes for the first time with our community of non-traditional communicators. “Our work together was a beautiful, healing re-entry back into in-person classes with our friends at MSS St. Paul," said Teaching Artist Chitra Vairavan, who was hired early in pandemic and teaching with Upstream Arts in-person for the first time. "[It was an] affirmation to collaboratively build and hold space amongst my colleagues and fellow magical teaching artists at Upstream Arts.”
We will continue to cautiously yet optimistically move towards more in-person classes with our disability community, with the hopes of having more in-person and hybrid classes this fall!
