Are you noticing birds hanging around this winter? There are different types of migration that occurs such as short, medium, and long distance migration along with permanent residents. These types of migration patterns are determined by how far a bird will travel during winter if at all. More on migration habits here.
Resident birds stay in our region year-round. They are able to find food or adapt their diets to what food is available. Some common resident birds in the pacific northwest include dark eyed juncos, anna's hummingbirds, black capped chickadees, and so many more! Click here for more information!
If possible, plant native species such as, Oregon grape, snowberry, red flowering currant or other species in your yard that produce berries and seeds at different times of the year, this ensures that birds can find food during the winter months. This also provides suitable shelter for them during this time.
