Inside The Spartan Spotlight

Dear Parents and Guardians,
Well, the pandemic has managed to put a damper on another major holiday. This is the time of year we were to gather with family and friends to share in a feast. This is the time of year when all Americans share the same intention, which is to express our appreciation for all of the wonderful things we have in our lives. Okay, I know times are tough, but I am sure we can find one thing that we are thankful for in our lives. Continue Reading

LETTER FROM THE VP FOR ACADEMIC LIFE

Dear Parents, Guardians, Students, and Friends of De La Salle,
We are in the second week of in-person instruction. Dr. Berkes, our Director of Faculty Development, and I have collectively visited every teacher’s classroom over the past week and a half, and we have seen our faculty and students alike engage in thoughtful ways with each other as well as with the students who are learning from home. Over the next weeks, we will be jumping in as distance learners, so we can continue to experience our new hybrid instructional platform from multiple perspectives. This will allow us to continue to support our amazing faculty and resilient students alike. Continue Reading

Dear De La Salle High School Community,
On behalf of the President Search Committee, we would like to provide you with a brief update on the search process. Our search professionals from Educational Directions, Mathew Heersche and Risa Oganesoff Heersche, have been in the process of recruiting candidates. Their work has involved reaching out to Catholic educational leaders throughout the country and abroad, utilizing Educational Directions’ comprehensive database, contacting national and regional associations and professional organizations as well as leadership programs at various Catholic universities, and advertising on appropriate websites such as The Blue Sheet, an executive search report published by Educational Directions.

COMPANY PRODUCTION - 12 ANGRY JURORS

De La Salle and Carondelet Theatre Company’s outdoor performance of 12 Angry Jurors is scheduled to run November 5, 6, 7, 12, 13, and 14 at 7:15 p.m., under the tent in the quad.
This will be a complimentary production for the De La Salle/Carondelet communities. Seating will be limited and reservations are required.
The cast and crew have been meeting in cohorts this semester to bring our community a production set in the pandemic. They constructed plexiglass juror tables and incorporated all of the fears and safety precautions that we face each day. Add to the environment the pressure of determining the fate of an accused 19-year-old boy and we have some powerful theatre.
12 Angry Jurors wrestles with our justice system and the people who determine if one really is innocent until proven guilty. De La Salle welcomes you to join us.

DE LA SALLE GIVING TUESDAY

Did you miss De La Salle Giving Day? No problem! Tuesday, December 1, is a great day to give, too. A day dedicated to giving, #GivingTuesday, is a global movement to encourage philanthropy during the holiday season that De La Salle is proud to be part of.
De La Salle continues to work to close the over $300,000 operational gap caused by the pandemic. Your support is felt throughout the school year, especially now during these different times we live in. This includes:
- the lessons teachers plan to accommodate in-person and distance learning each day;
- the clubs, sports, retreats, productions, and activities the students are involved in - in-person and while distanced;
- the extent of the preparation and safety measures taken to ensure all individuals on-campus, faculty, staff, and students, are protected from COVID-19;
- and the tuition assistance one in three students have received because they need the extra help.
You can make your gift today, on #GivingTuesday, or anytime in between. Every gift benefits all students throughout the school year.

P.S. Have questions about your philanthropic giving? Contact Karla Wiese at (510) 612-6435 or wiesek@dlshs.org. 2020 is a great year for charitable giving benefits thanks to the CARES Act! Talk to your financial advisor about how your tax-deductible contributions can benefit you and De La Salle this calendar year.
