Normally, this would be the blog post where I recount all the great things that have happened in CASL over the past year (and there have been many). But instead, I was inspired by something that I heard over the weekend to put my historian hat on and to talk briefly about something altogether different.
CASL faculty, students and alumni are involved in a variety of classes, research, activities and philanthropy, and are making an impact locally, regionally and nationally.
Congratulations to CASL alumna (B.S. '01) Dr. Dania Bazzi, Superintendent of Ferndale Public Schools! She was named as the Michigan 2022 Superintendent of the Year award winner by the Michigan Association of Superintendents & Administrators (MASA). The award is presented to a member who has shown “tremendous effort and dedication to enriching the lives of students and the community as a whole."
CASL alum Allen Attee, ‘01 B.A. in Economics, is the Co-owner & CEO of Picasso Restaurant Group. He joins UM-Dearborn Professor of Economics Ilir Miteza for a conversation on leading with positive energy, recruiting and retaining employees during the pandemic, and his experience as an entrepreneur with an economics background.
Allen also steps into the UM-Dearborn McKinley Café kitchen, with Picasso Restaurant Group Executive Chef Dak Zorn, for a cooking demonstration on preparing a festive holiday appetizer!
This holiday season, shop for gifts that give back to our alumni entrepreneurs and professionals who make the Michigan family what it is today — a wonderful network of leaders and best! Go Blue — Go Dearborn!
"A View from the CASL" is a quarterly e-newsletter for CASL alumni.
Your gifts to the CASL Annual Fund make it possible for CASL students to participate in activities such as internships and research that enhance their education. Thank you! Your support is especially important for CASL students who could not otherwise afford to participate in unpaid internships and/or research. These experiences can be transformative for CASL students and also prepare them for success upon graduation.
For example, check out the following video by alumnus, Griffin S. Bray, who conducted a research analysis of vascular plant ecosystems on the Rouge River floodplain when he was a CASL student studying environmental studies.
