Dear Faculty, Administrators and Staff,
Last month, the Office of Graduate Affairs hosted a Meet and Greet for New Graduate Students, with more than 140 new graduate students welcomed and in attendance. The event provided a casual yet informative space for students to meet their fellow classmates, as well as faculty and administrators across programs. It was truly an evening of conversations, connections and community.
Looking ahead, the Office of Graduate Affairs is looking forward to hosting more welcome events before classes begin. More than 300 new graduate students are anticipated to attend today’s University-wide Graduate Orientation. This virtual orientation will introduce students to resources and services available at Seton Hall that will support and help to facilitate their studies. Presenters will include Student Services, Graduate Affairs, Career Services, University Libraries, Grants and IRB, the Offices of Financial Aid and the Bursar and Information Technology.
During Welcome Week, from August 26 – August 29, graduate students will be invited to stop by Schwartz Hall between 4 – 7 p.m. in the lounge for a cup of coffee and chat with fellow graduate students. Faculty and administrators are also invited to attend during the week, for the chance to meet and engage with our new graduate students.
These events help to create a welcoming and supportive environment for our incoming students, setting a positive tone for the year ahead.

Seton Hall Participates in Major Lenape Reburial |
In June, more than 100 Lenape ancestors and their burial items were reburied by officials, staff and guests of the Stockbridge-Munsee Community, Delaware Tribe and Delaware Nation. This event was the result of years of work by the Tribal Historic Preservation Offices to reclaim the ancestors under the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA). Seton Hall University participated due to the Walsh Gallery staff’s efforts to ensure compliance with NAGPRA, particularly regarding the University’s archaeological collection. Significant work began in the mid-2000s to return objects of cultural patrimony. The recent repatriation marks the University’s first major step in years towards aligning with this human rights legislation, reinforcing its commitment to honoring Native American heritage.

2024-25 Academies and Idea Hall Applications Due September 13
The Academies program offers 1-2 years of flexible funding for faculty to pursue projects that develop interdisciplinary curricula or scholarship, or projects that align with university goals, such as enhancing diversity and inclusion, increasing grant submissions, and expanding graduate programs. This initiative also supports projects that improve the integration of mission, service, and other experiential learning opportunities within programs and curricula, including advancing international efforts.
The Idea Hall is a mechanism for supporting innovative ideas that extend beyond academic units. The initiative also offers 1-2 years of funding for administrators, staff, and faculty to propose collaborative projects that span across multiple divisions. By improving, enriching and cultivating cross-divisional partnerships, this initiative intends to promote innovative ideas that improve student retention, optimize use of facilities, and integrate service learning into the student experience.
