From the Associate Dean of Research |
Did you miss the meeting on Research and Scholarship at Mason? Whether new to CPH or not, I encourage you to watch the recording. It provides a nice summary of research resources across Mason, covering the three Mason institutes and how to engage with them (i.e., the Institute for Sustainable Earth with the Virginia Climate Center, the Institute for Digital Innovation, and the Institute for Biohealth Innovation). It also covers important services offered to researchers through the library, how research ties to advancement and to governmental relations at Mason and similar. The recording is at 2024 Research and Scholarship at Mason. You must be logged in to your GMU account to view the folder.
Congratulations to our CPH faculty on their research awards. Nine faculty have received awards since December 1, seven on new projects. This includes an award to Rochelle Davidson Mhonde, GCH, from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Health Equity Scholars for Action program whose project is entitled "Mixed Methods Pilot of a Digital Intervention for Black Parents Sexual Health Communication." In addition, Li-Mei Chen, Social Work, received an award from the Office of Undergraduate Education for her initiative, "Civic engagement, E-health Outcomes of Older Immigrants," while Kenneth Griffin, GCH, received an award from NIH for, "Evidence-Based Classroom Preventive Intervention with Multicomponent Digital Health Learning Tools to Reduce Bullying among Elementary School Students." I'm pleased that my collaborative project with colleagues from UC Berkeley, "Closing Racial Disparities Through the Affordable Care Act: Medicaid Expansion, Marketplaces, Federally Qualified Community Health Centers" was also funded by NIH. The breadth and depth of CPH research, and recognition by funders, is marvelous to see.
The CPH Office of Research will be offering a brown bag on getting to know your project officers and grant strategies beyond the written document. Leslie Frieden, PhD, Mason's Associate Director Research Development, will present "I have my NIH summary score, now what? Best Practices, Next Steps, and navigating ICs " March 5, 12pm. Room TBD.
