Honor Those We've Lost By Seeking Justice for the Living: #NoMoreHomelessDeath
The National Health Care for the Homeless Council and the National Coalition for the Homeless recognize Thursday, December 21, 2017 as Homeless Persons' Memorial Day (HPMD). This day is a time to remember those who have died while living without a home. As we honor those we have lost, we must also fight to change policies so that no more needless deaths occur.
Please join a Twitter Chat taking place at 1 p.m. CT on December 21, Homeless Persons' Memorial Day, to discuss housing, health care, and human rights. Log into your Twitter account then and tweet using the hashtag #NoMoreHomelessDeath.
Schedule an in-district meeting or tour (preferrably coinciding with an HPMD event). Use our lawmaker invitation letter template and find contact information on your Congress member's website or call (202) 224-3121 to ask about arranging a site visit.
Engage your lawmaker on social media. Social media increases visibility and raises awareness about the connection between housing, homelessness, and policy solutions. If you have relationships with office staff, ask them to tweet about HPMD on Dec. 21st and participate in our Twitter chat. Find sample tweets and Congress's Twitter Accounts.
Remind your members of Congress that access to health care and housing saves lives. Stay engaged via email, calls, and social media on Health Center Funding and investments in affordable housing programs. Take Action using our talking points and follow action alerts from our partners at the National Low Income Housing Coalition.
