Good Evening,
From the Reading Pile: Alphabet soup: Will the merger of PRX and PRI shift the competitive landscape of public radio (and podcasting)?
Northeast
If you live in New Haven, and you vote in the May primary, one of your New Haven mayoral choices will be Bob Nelson, who started the Associated Churches' WHNH-LP (101.3fm, New Haven). Mr. Nelson works in marketing and PR and serves as president of the East Allen County Schools board.
In the early 1980s, Marti Wright joined WPTA-TV (Channel 21, Fort Wayne) as a reporter. Ms. Wright worked her way up to weekend anchor and then weekday anchor until leaving in 2000. Ms. Wright now lives in Michiana, and recently appeared in an online video, where she interviewed Elkhart Mayor Tim Neese.
Northcentral
Brooke Welch joins Sinclair's CBS affiliate WSBT-TV (Channel 22, South Bend) as a reporter. Ms. Welch last worked in Fort Wayne, as lead evening anchor at Heartland Media's FOX affiliate/WFFT-TV (Channel 55, Fort Wayne). Ms. Welch will be on air as Brooke O'Daniel, as she recently married. (Congratulations!)
Where Are They Now? Former Country/WBYT (100.7fm, Elkhart) OM/PD Tom Oakes now works in Springfield, Missouri, as OM for the Scripps Radio cluster. Mr. Oakes also now programs their KTTS
Eastcentral
On August 30, 2017, Rush County Schools' WRLN (91.9fm, Rushville) went silent because of a transmitter failure. The WRLN tower site is just off IN-44, east of Rushville, and it's near a grain elevator and railroad tracks. Engineers recently moved the transmitter to the ground floor, and WRLN recently advised the FCC that they are back on the air at 158 watts (STA) and it should return to full 600 watt power after a new Crown transmitter gets installed.
Central
Tony Severino joins Sarkes Tarzian's AAA/WTTS (92.3fm, Bloomington) as their next Director of Sales. Mr. Severino last did sales across town for Radio One's CHR/WNOW-FM (100.9fm, Speedway). Broadcasting runs in the Severino family blood: Tony's late father Tom was a broadcaster and Emmis/Indianapolis GM, until he died in 2009.
After over two years, McKenzie McCarthy will soon exit as Promotions Director for Sarkes Tarzian's AAA/WTTS (92.3fm, Bloomington).
Southeast
Kathy Versemann and Sandy Biddinger's Two Black Cadillacs, Inc. closes on their $60,000 purchase of two translators: W278BB (103.5fm, Greensburg) and W282AZ (104.3fm, Greensburg) from New Beginnings Movement, Inc.
Southwest
Cromwell Radio's Classic Hip Hop/WTCJ (1230am, Tell City) and its three FM translators all flip format to Classic Hits "Jack FM." Those three FM translators: W227CO (93.3fm, Cannelton), W254CC (98.7fm, Owensboro, Kentucky), and W294CG (106.7fm, Tell City).
