Denison introduces a new major in applied mathematics
Building on the success of the university’s mathematics major, Denison’s new applied mathematics major provides a path for students interested in careers in finance, actuarial science, and data-driven fields, as well as graduate education in areas like statistics, data science, and operations research. Applied mathematics is available to students beginning fall of 2022.
“The applied mathematics major is another instance of Denison’s capacity to engage the broad powers of a liberal arts education in solving current issues,” says Denison University President Adam Weinberg. “Students in the applied mathematics major learn the foundational knowledge they need, as well as strategies, tactics, and experience in applying their math knowledge to real-world problems. This is one more way in which we equip our graduates to find success and meaning in their careers.”
Learn more about how Denison continues to offer a deep and broad liberal arts education that encourages interdisciplinary thinking and applied knowledge that allows students to become the architects of their lives.

In recognition of the 50th year of Title IX, Denison University Athletics asks you to join us in our year-long celebration as we recognize and pay tribute to the impact the women of this university have had on the athletic department.
Our “50 Years of Title IX” digital celebration page serves as the home base for a commemoration of the rich history of women’s sports at Denison University that will take place throughout the year. This commemoration will include a digital campaign highlighting our female pioneers, former student-athletes, current student-athletes, and coaches each month and other feature events titled “Nine For IX.”

SOTC intern alumni networking event
The Knowlton Center for Career Exploration hosted an alumni networking event for students completing internships in Cleveland this summer through the Summer on the Cuyahoga (SOTC) program at INTRO Cleveland earlier this month.
SOTC is Northeast Ohio’s premier summer internship program for a select group of regional colleges and universities from Ohio, the East Coast, and the greater Midwest. Home to the Cuyahoga River, Cleveland is the focal point and gathering place for 70-80 students from our nine partner schools each summer.
Students are interning with organizations including the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Third Federal, REACH Program at University School, and SC4K. While our students shared updates from The Hill and their internships, alums from various class years and industries shared some of their favorite Denison memories and professional advice.
Thank you to the Denison alums who helped build relationships with current students.

Off The Hill and into a community
Ever since Intel announced its plans in early 2022 to build a $20 billion semiconductor plant in Licking County’s Jersey Township, things have been changing quickly in this quiet central Ohio community. The development promises to wildly transform a large patch of countryside, swapping farms for factories and creating thousands of much-needed jobs for the region. Nearby residents have both cheered and jeered the landmark investment and what it will mean to their individual and collective lifestyles.

| It’s a big news story, to say the least. Too big for any single news outlet to cover and too complex, too nuanced, to paint with sweeping strokes. That’s where three Denison students and several others from The Reporting Project at Denison University have stepped in to offer a deep local look into the story.
Read more about how The Reporting Project, an idea that originated from Denison’s new major and minor in journalism, is putting heart into local news — and telling one of Licking County’s biggest stories.
