Exploring Intersections on Homelessness and Human Trafficking: A Case Study on End Slavery Tennessee

Not enough is known about how pervasive human trafficking is in the United States, but what we do know is sobering: up to 40 percent of youths experiencing homelessness are victims of trafficking. Conservatively estimated, this means that 800,000 youths experience these combined tragedies every year. To help address this issue, the Council's latest case study examines how Health Care for the Homeless providers can better engage these clients.

Highlighting the work of End Slavery Tennessee, our publication details an example of quality services for individuals with experience of both homelessness and trafficking. Learn more—and find signs providers can use to identify a history of trafficking—in our new study.

New Webinar Offers Clinical Perspectives on Using Telehealth to Manage Diabetes
Tuesday, January 21: 1-2 p.m. CT | Presented by the National HCH Council

Telehealth offers providers opportunities to engage patients in new ways and expand services to clients who may otherwise be difficult or even impossible to reach. In this first webinar of a four-part “Clinicians’ Coffee Chat” series on diabetes, participants will learn about telehealth for diabetes care and education.

Presenters from the Medical University of South Carolina, Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare, and ARcare will share their experiences in this free, interactive session. Three additional diabetes coffee chats focused on community health workers, co-morbidities, and nutrition will follow in 2020.

Presenters will provide an overview of research on diabetes across generations and share strategies for addressing barriers to diabetes management for people facing homelessness, housing insecurity, and other living conditions.

Council Honors Homeless Persons' Memorial Day

NHCHC CEO Bobby Watts and other staff joined advocates, legislators, and people with lived experience of homelessness in Nashville on December 21 to recognize Homeless Persons' Memorial Day. Organized by our partners at Open Table Nashville, the remembrance honored the nearly 100 Nashvillians who perished without housing in 2019.

The remembrance was one of numerous memorials that took place across the U.S. from Los Angeles to Baltimore.
