What one week do OB-GYN residents look forward to? Could it include yoga, cleaning or sharing a meal? It might, but it definitely includes raising awareness of a critical part of being a physician.

Becoming a doctor is an option no matter where you live |
Students from a rural community who have a class size of 12 are just as needed to become doctors as students from schools of 600. Physicians from rural areas are more likely to return to practice medicine in rural areas than those who come from large cities. But how do students find out about those opportunities? That’s where ROOTS steps in, a new program led by medical students who aim to support and guide rural high school and undergraduate students toward medicine as a profession and calling.

Residents in the Family Medicine Residency Program at Wesley Medical Center hold up their weighted blanket gifts received on Thank A Resident Day.
|
We're thankful for our residents! |
Feb. 23 was Thank A Resident Day, an opportunity to thank resident physicians for all of their hard work and dedication to serving our community. The Wichita Center for Graduate Medical Education along with departments at KU School of Medicine-Wichita helped let them know how much they're appreciated.
Residency often leads to long hours matched with many responsibilities, so in 2018, the Gold Humanism Honor Society decided to highlight residents on Feb. 23 and encourage medical students to to show their gratitude.
