Loves About Brebeuf
There is so much that I love about Brebeuf, but what I love the most is the inclusive and open community. As an example, many schools shy away from discussing important, but controversial topics that have to do with things such as race and religion. Brebeuf actually encourages its students and faculty to facilitate dialogue in the classroom and in Diversity Dialogues when important events happen in our world. I will never forget coming to school the day after the Parkland shooting. My first-period class was Social Justice with Mrs. Hennessy. Instead of starting with a lesson right away, she asked us how we were feeling and what our concerns were. We ended up spending all class period just discussing our thoughts and what we wanted to see change. I’ve been blessed to be a part of a community that truly cares about the well-being and comfort of their students.
Future Plans
I plan to major in biology on the pre-dental track at either Howard University, Villanova University, or Xavier University in Cincinnati. I hope to become a pediatric dentist and eventually open up my own practice. I also hope to do as much traveling as possible in the future. I love visiting new places and experiencing new cultures!
Favorite Class
Two of my favorite classes I’ve taken at Brebeuf are AP Psychology with Mr. Petty and Honors Anatomy and Physiology with Mrs. McCarter. I took AP Psychology last year, and I loved it! It was so interesting to learn about human behavior and why we make certain decisions. I’m currently taking Anatomy, and not only do we learn about the body and its functions, but we also do many hands-on activities like dissections! We even had the opportunity to go to a cadaver lab last week!

What is the silliest/most irrational fear you have?
I always have to walk around those sewer or drain covers in the ground, because I have a big fear that I’ll fail into one. I also have a big fear of being hardcore stalked.
If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life what would it be?
I would eat either chicken parmesan or ice cream, but definitely not together.
You are now in your final semester at Brebeuf Jesuit. Has it sunk in yet?
The fact that I am a second semester senior is really just now settling in. First semester, I used to think that the school year was going by so slowly and I just wanted to graduate. Now that the time is almost here, I want everything to slow down a little. Although high school has had its ups and downs, I have really enjoyed my time at Brebeuf and wouldn’t really change anything. I’m looking forward to college, but I would be lying if I said I won’t miss high school and all of the incredible people I’ve met throughout the years. I’ll miss the little moments with my friends, practices with my teammates, and daily discussions with faculty members. I can’t say I’m not scared and nervous about the future, but I’m really looking forward to what’s to come and to hear about the amazing things my classmates accomplish.
In what way have you changed the most since your freshman year?
Something that has changed the most since freshman year is my mindset. I strive to be more positive and optimistic in my life, whether it comes to school or sports. A negative mindset gets you nowhere. I have found that I feel much better when I’m looking at the positive side of a situation. Along with being positive, I try to stay present in the moment instead of constantly thinking about what will happen in the future. Yes, it is important to think about your future, but it can also distract you from getting things done and paying attention to what is currently happening around you. There has to be a happy medium between the two. This can be extremely hard to keep in mind when we live in such a fast-paced world. Although I am still working on it, I have definitely improved in that aspect throughout the last few years.
