MaTaRoT Helps Jewish Educators Thrive
“Having sources of learning and feedback beyond the walls of my own work setting is quite worthwhile. Often situations arise that benefit from outside perspectives, and there are resources out in the professional development world that expand my capacity in my work. Each week, my coach helps me frame professional challenges as opportunities to practice my leadership, and we often rehearse strategies that make a direct impact on my work.”
— Rabbi Sam Pollak, Director of Congregational Learning at Congregation Kerem Shalom in Concord, MA and member of the Hebrew College's MaTaRoT ("goals") coaching cohort

MaTaRoT offers courses, workshops, coaching and more for educators to deepen their practice in a supportive, professional learning community.

JTFGB Kicks off Fundraising Campaigns for Disaster Relief and Access to Food and Water
On Sunday, January 8th, teen board members of Hebrew College’s Jewish Teen Foundation of Greater Boston (JTFGB) met in Hebrew College's new home on Washington Street to build their fundraising skills and kick off their campaigns—focusing their philanthropic efforts on the causes of disaster relief and access to food and water in 2023. “There is not one correct way to fundraise. There are a lot of different factors to take into account which will help you decide how you are going to do it. I am really excited, as this is something I have never done before,” reflected teen board member Noah Kesselman.

Other People’s Old People, and Other People’s Kids
By Rav Hazzan Ken Richmond `21, Co-Senior Rabbi of Temple Israel of Natick
We can learn from the argument between Pharaoh and Moses at the beginning of [Parashat Bo], that the Pharaohs of the world want to divide people based on gender, age, and role in society. It’s our job to do the best we can to follow the refreshingly modern response of Moses, that we need people of all ages, all genders, and all roles, in order to create community. As Yaakov Tzvi Mecklenburg, a German rabbi of the 19th century said, “What kind of simcha—what kind of joyous occasion—would it be for those who go [off to worship in the desert], if they leave behind their old people and their young ones in Egypt, on God’s festival?”
