Opportunities for Mississippi and Beyond |
|
|
We’re heading to Mississippi next week! Our team will stop in three cities across the state for the 2026 HQIM Caravan. Come and see us to explore resources and ask questions. Learn more about our state-aligned programs, when and where you can attend our sessions on health and PE, and how to schedule time to connect with a community partnership manager on our Mississippi webpage.
Additionally, K-8 educators in Mississippi have access to CATCH Mental Wellness training for free. Thanks to support from Delta Dental Community Care Foundation, Moody Foundation, and The Meadows Foundation educators in Texas, California, New York, and Louisiana can also access the training, along with curriculum and resources, at no cost. Let us know you’re interested in working together to improve student well-being.

Can a school-based program really change student behavior? Turns out, the answer is “yes,” and the proof is powerful.
A new NIH-funded study from UTHealth Houston found that students who participated in CATCH My Breath were nearly four times less likely to try vaping by 8th grade than those who did not.
In November, we hosted a webinar featuring Dr. Mantey and Dr. Kelder, lead and senior authors on the study and consultants in national litigation against the vaping industry. During the discussion, we explored:
|
- What’s actually working to prevent vaping before it starts
- How districts are implementing CATCH My Breath and empowering students
- New professional development opportunities

School Community of Practice Rio Grande Valley |
|
|
In partnership with Legacy Valley Baptist Foundation, we awarded $20,000 across five districts in our Rio Grande Valley (RGV) School Community Practice cohort. The funded projects support student and staff wellness through initiatives like staff appreciation and wellness programs, hands-on nutrition experiences for students and families, and expanded access to inclusive physical education equipment. Together, these efforts are projected to reach more than 11,900 students, families, and staff. If you're in the RGV area and want to be part of this work, sign up and we'll let you know when the next meeting is.

Federal policy is shifting in ways that could shape public health education for years to come. SHAPE America and the Society of State Leaders of Health and Physical Education recently hosted The Power of State Advocacy webinar. State leaders, including Michelle, a representative for Connecticut, shared strong examples of how effective advocacy is in strengthening health and physical education across their states.
