From Dr. Heather Alumbaugh, Vice President for Academic Life

6 June 2018

Dear Parents, Guardians, Students, and Friends of De La Salle,

The 2017-2018 has come to an end, with the graduation of our 2018 class and the promotion to the next level of our freshmen, sophomores, and juniors. (To see the 2018 graduation ceremony, please click here.)

Last week, we said goodbye officially to some beloved faculty and staff members. Mr. Robin Bradford (40-year DLS Social Studies teacher) and Mr. Michael Otterstedt (30-year DLS school counselor and Director of Student Support Services) both retired at the end of this year. We will miss their wisdom and humor, and it is hard to imagine this place without these men who have worked here in combined years longer than the school has existed!

We also say goodbye to Mr. Tim Chu (Library), Mr. Chris Crespi (Science), Mr. Jordan Kirkner (Math), Brother Patrick Martin, FSC (Religious Studies), Mrs. Shannon Sullivan-Danser (Communications Assistant), and Mr. Chris Trinidad (Religious Studies). We wish them well as they pursue other life journeys, many of them in other locations.

We welcome to our 2018-2019 De La Salle family these new hires: Mr. Brian Wiersma (Library), Mr. David Nelson (Science), Ms. Danielle Garrison and Mr. Travis Pacos (both Math), Mr. Jason Shelton (Religious Studies), Mr. Rich Davi (Communications Associate), and Ms. Lauren Stevens (School Counselor).

Please be attentive to the upcoming summer electronic mailing (forthcoming mid-July); it will include everything from required summer reading to a check list of responsibilities to prepare for the upcoming school year.

Thank you for a wonderful year, and enjoy your summer! We look forward to seeing you again in the fall.

Sincerely,

Dr. Heather Alumbaugh
Vice President for Academic Life

Summer Reading Available

The 2018 Summer Reading List is now available and includes classes in English, Science, Social Studies, and Health. Not every student will have summer reading, so we encourage you to review the list carefully.
Click here to view the full list. All students are required to complete the reading by the first day of classes - August 15.

Spartan Spotlight Survey

We want to thank you all for reading our monthly parent newsletter. As we look to the next year, we want to review this communication piece and hear from you what you might like to see included more often. We know there have been several surveys over the last few months; this one should hopefully take no more than 5 minutes and will greatly help us plan out the year.

Information Updates & Agreements

Summer Process & Timeline

Yes! Again this summer, ALL DLS families will once again engage in our online family updates and partnership agreements.
You will first receive a "Save the Date" postcard at the end of June with the URL link to our online summer checklist. This checklist will be available in mid-July; Mr. Dyer will notify you when it is live on the website. All updates and agreements must be completed by Friday, August 3rd, 2018.  Book Distribution access for your son is tied to the completion of this process.

Hoping you’re enjoying the start of your summer!

Theatre Company - That's a wrap!

The De La Salle Theatre Company had such a busy year! Thank you families, faculty, alumni, staff, coaches and students for supporting our arts program.

  • We traveled to the Shakespeare festival in Ashland, OR with the guidance of Ms. Leigh and Mr Kelley.
  • This year Company and baseball joined forces to explore stage combat in The Outsiders
  • The premier of One Night Only welcomed middle school boys to experience a night of visual and performing arts in high school.
  • Together with CHS, we produced the first 24-Hour Play series and successfully launched Rehearsal for Murder with Theatre II and Tech Theatre classes collaborating.
  • This year also marked our first trip to Upland, CA where our varsity company members (Members of the International Thespian Society) competed at the State Conference taking home several Superior awards.
  • The grand finale of our season was Little Shop of Horrors and our very own Companies.
A very special thank you to Brother Lawrence and Dawson Diaz for capturing our shows with fantastic photography. Thank you to our administration for giving us the freedom to expand our program. The De La Salle Visual and Performing Arts Department rallied this year and the students in Company benefited from your hard work. We wish you well Mr. Trinidad! Welcome back, Mrs. DeWeese! Before I miss my deadline to submit this letter of thanks to our school community, let me also say thank you to Mrs. Danser for always making us look good!
Next year we look forward to starting off strong with the musical Dogfight. Auditions will be August 20 – 24. Cant wait to see you there!
-Ms. Barnidge & Mr. Wickboldt
