COVID-19 Sustainability Program.
Introduction: The Harvest Foundation and the United Way of Henry County and Martinsville have partnered with the Center for Nonprofit Excellence to offer a new program that improves the resiliency of local nonprofits. We understand that the past year has been incredibly challenging for your organization. Disruptions in service delivery, operations, and funding have undoubtedly impacted each and every nonprofit in Martinsville and Henry County. In order to assist local organizations, a new short-term program has been developed. This program will provide unrestricted grant funding bundled with training for board and staff that will help with the sustainability and flexibility of your organization.
Eligibility Requirements: In order to participate in this program, organizations must:
- Document nonprofit status
- Prohibit discrimination by an individual’s sex, race, color, national origin, age, religion, disability, sexual orientation or any other legally protected characteristic
- Operate on a sound financial basis in accordance with GAAP and maintain adequate accounting and reporting systems. Organizations must be able to furnish an audit or financial review
- Be anti-terrorism compliant with the USA Patriot Act and other counter terrorism laws
- Must be based in Martinsville-Henry County and deliver the majority of your services to residents of Martinsville and Henry County
Program Plan: The Covid-19 Sustainability Program will solicit applications from local nonprofits. Volunteers from the community will screen applications for participation in the program. Once enrolled, organizations will be required to participate in training provided by the Center for Nonprofit Excellence based in Charlottesville, VA. The training will be delivered in a cohort based environment via Zoom, with between 6 and 8 local nonprofits participating in each cohort. There are two primary training modules offered. The Program Scenario Planning asks nonprofit staff and board members to: identify possible program scenarios; identify current response strategy to changes; begin building a plan to operate in different environments. The Financial Modeling Scenario asks nonprofits to assess program funding, revenue variability, revenue probabilities and expense variability. Participating nonprofits will also receive additional technical assistance as they work through these modules from the Center for Nonprofit Excellence. After the completion of these training modules, a one year membership to the Center for Nonprofit Excellence will be funded through this program for participating organizations.
Grant Awards: Unrestricted grants will be provided to each organization that participates in the training program. In order to receive the full amount, organizations must complete both training modules. Grants will be disbursed at the rate of 50% of total award after the completion of each training module. Grant awards will be between $5,000 and $7,500, depending on the size of the organization.
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, with the next review occurring on January 30th.
