What a year it has been. Thank you for your support as we managed life around a pandemic. As you know, last year there was no tuition increase – the first time in the history of the school. We, like you, figured out ways to stretch ourselves financially. However, to try to do this for two years in a row would be financially irresponsible.

Dear Parents, Guardians, Students, and Friends of De La Salle,
During the Lenten season, I think very intentionally about the sacrifices and gifts we share both as a community and on the individual level, and that practice has only intensified as we approach the one-year anniversary of moving into Shelter-in-Place. As I think about the school’s blessings, I think repeatedly about how our students, faculty, and staff--their courage, vulnerability, compassion, introspection, and resilience--have helped to sustain us all.

THE NEXT DE LA SALLE PRESIDENT

On Monday, March 1, De La Salle's Board of Trustees Chair, Frank Wagner '73, announced the appointment of David Holquin as the new President of De La Salle High School, effective July 1, 2021. David will take over school leadership from Mark DeMarco '78, who, after 14 years of outstanding service, has announced his retirement at the end of this school year.

SPARTAN CHARITY CHALLENGE

With the beginning of the Lenten season with Ash Wednesday on February 17th, De La Salle kicked off its annual school fundraiser, the Spartan Charity Challenge. This year, the Spartan Charity Challenge is a completely online fundraiser, and the school will be using the GoFundMe platform to collect donations. To date, the challenge has $2,460 in donations, which is 23 percent of the overall goal of raising $11,000. The Spartan Charity Challenge ends on March 30th.
Donations will support the Nativity Village School in Shinara, Eritrea, the Brothers’ Ministries in India and Sri Lanka, the De La Salle Brotherhood Fund, and Generation Alive.

- Weekly appointments for De La Salle on-campus COVID-19 testing are available every Wednesday for all students, families, employees, and employee families. The cost of testing is currently covered by the CARES Act. For more information about our on-site testing or to schedule an appointment, visit the De La Salle On-Campus Testing webpage.

| De La Salle Golf Classic SOLD OUT
| |
The De La Salle Golf Classic, on Monday, March 29 at Diablo Country Club, is SOLD OUT. Although playing opportunities have reached capacity, you can still support this event through sponsorship, in-kind donations to our auction, or by volunteering the day of the event. Due to the uncertainty with COVID-19 and large gatherings, we have had to postpone and/or cancel many of our fundraising events. We are hopeful that we will be able to hold all of our annual events in some capacity next school year. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to plan these events in compliance with the County guidelines.
Save The Date - De La Salle Auction We are still planning to host the De La Salle Auction later this school year. The current date for the De La Salle Auction is Saturday, May 1, 2021. More details will be coming soon.

Tax season is here! If you made a charitable gift to De La Salle in 2020, as long as you itemize your tax return, you will still be able to deduct your charitable gifts. When you are meeting with your tax specialist, be sure to ask them about the benefits you will receive in 2020 and start planning for your charitable giving in 2021!

LEGACY LOCKER PROGRAMHonor or memorialize a graduate, family member, teacher, coach, or friend through a named locker in the Ladouceur Athletic Performance Center.

De La Salle is excited to share a new naming opportunity in the Ladouceur Athletic Performance Center. The Legacy Locker Program is a great way to leave your legacy at De La Salle. Locker naming opportunities will be displayed within the Team Room in the Ladouceur Athletic Performance Center. Lockers are $500 each and have the ability to be personalized with three lines, 20 characters (spaces and symbols included) per line.

De La Salle Mourns the Death of Mark Halvorson De La Salle High School was saddened by the passing of long-time wrestling head coach Mark Halvorson (57), who died of a heart attack on February 15th.
Mark was hired by then Athletic Director, Terry Eidson in 1999 and coached the varsity wrestling team at De La Salle for 22 years. He led the Spartans to 11 North Coast Section championships, while sending nearly 100 student-athletes to state meets, claiming 23 medals and two individual championships. Mark also coached for Team USA Wrestling, where he was a volunteer coach for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
Mark’s care for others, unselfishness, work-ethic, passion for his sport, and life lessons he taught the student-athletes will make him unforgettable on the De La Salle campus.

On February 23rd, De La Salle Athletics announced schedules for five sports; cross country, football, golf, swimming and diving, and tennis. With the addition of outdoor sports resuming on February 26th, 10 of the school's 13 athletic programs are approved to resume competitions.
Cross country, golf, swimming and diving, and tennis seasons are already underway, football will start on March 13th, and schedules for baseball, lacrosse, soccer, track and field, and water polo are being finalized, and will be available in the coming days. When schedules are complete, they will be available on the De La Salle Athletics website at www.DLSSpartans.org and on the DLS Spartans app.

Tuition payments are due on the 1st of each month and considered late after the 10th of that month.
All tuition accounts must be current in order to participate in Graduation activities or re-enroll for the 2021-22 school year. Financial Aid applications through FACTS for the 2021-22 school year are still available through our website. Any applications submitted after February 12th will only be considered after all applications received by the deadline are processed. We encourage you to apply using the FACTS application link directly through our website at www.dlshs.org Admissions tab (Financial Assistance).
Please remember if you are currently receiving Financial Aid you must re-apply each year. If you have not applied yet you may miss the first round of financial aid distribution.

De La Salle High School, Chapter No. 918, is excited to announce the largest group of California Scholarship Federation (CSF) members, as 228 members were granted Spring 2021 membership.

Student Circle Discussion Series Damon Wiley ’16, a member of Cal Berkeley’s Black Male Collective, Cameron Colvin ’04, President of CamCo Commercial Inc., De La Salle Football Coach Mawuko Tugbenyoh ’96, Mike Aquino, Director of Campus Life & Culture and Lloyd Schine ‘94, Director of Alumni Relations joined De La Salle students for a conversation and support circle specifically for our African-American young men.
The goal of the conversation was to create an inclusive, safe, and brave environment for Black men, free of judgment, while uplifting and empowering each other. The group plans to continue the conversation and meet monthly during the school year with different topics and other alumni to continue to support each other within the De La Salle community and beyond.

| Junior Mass of Unity (February 28) Juniors and their families were celebrated, becoming upperclassmen with their annual Mass of Unity (live-streamed) and a drive-thru ring/keychain pickup. The Parent Association also helped to celebrate the juniors with a customized Class of 2022 cookie.
Senior Mother/Son Mass and Brunch (March 7) After a one-year hiatus, we were able to bring back our Mother/Son Brunch. After watching a live-streamed mass, senior mothers and their sons are invited to campus to pick up a special brunch tote, complete with keepsake linen napkins and a special gift for our senior moms. Participants were invited to eat alfresco in the Quad and get special pictures together to mark the event.
Senior Yard Signs With the help of our De La Salle Alumni Association, we are celebrating and marking our Senior’s homes with Spartan Pride. Yard signs will be available for pickup on March 21st. Stay tuned for pick-up details.
Senior Graduation Announcements Graduation Announcements were distributed during lunch the first week of March in the Quad. If your Senior did not get their announcements, please contact Mr. Aliotti at aliottij@dlshs.org.
Junior Prom Update We would like to begin by saying how proud we are of the Class of 2022 for their resilience through this challenging and unprecedented school year. De La Salle and Carondelet's goal this year has been to try and preserve a special celebration for this Junior Class that meets the current health and safety guidelines. Unfortunately, due to the current restrictions in place, the Junior Prom on March 13th cannot proceed as originally planned. However, De La Salle and Carondelet are dedicated to providing a celebratory experience for our Juniors and are planning a fun, casual event on Friday, March 26th. Please save the date and more information, including the link to buy tickets, will be coming in the next few weeks.

- We are very happy that we will be able to offer the Mother/ Senior Son Liturgy this year, albeit following strict health safety guidelines. Preparations are in full swing. The Mass will be live-streamed on Sunday, March 7 at 10 a.m. on the De La Salle Chapel - YouTube Channel.
- The Worship Aid for the Mass can be accessed here.
- MMM Wednesday returned on Wednesday, March 3.
- The Junior Retreat, Parts 3 and 4 will be held on March 24th, both in-person and virtually.
- Our Lenten Prayer Service will be shown virtually on March 29th and 30th in Religious Studies classes.
- All Kairos 129-131 participants are invited to participate in a virtual Kairos 4th Day Meeting on March 10th at 3 p.m.
- There are only five (5) spots available on Kairos 132 (April 21-23). The retreat is still scheduled to be held at the Vallombrosa Retreat Center in Menlo Park, until further notice.

Driver's Education registration for the 2020-21 school year is currently available through the De La Salle website. Dates for Quarter 4 Driver's Education run from March 15th through April 30th. The cost for the course is $150.

The De La Salle Learning Center is looking for volunteers to help staff their tutoring efforts online or in person. The Learning Center is open Monday-Thursday, after school from 1:30-5 p.m. If you are interested in helping, please fill out this Questionnaire form and contact Learning Center Coordinator Jon Norfolk (norfolkj@dlshs.org).

The Parent Association is a group of current De La Salle parents who work on behalf of students, faculty, and staff to support events and volunteer needs.
Next Parent Association Meeting There is no Parent Association meeting in March. The next Parent Association meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 12 at 7 p.m., via Zoom. The Zoom link will be posted on the Parent Association webpage. Click on the appropriate date under "2020-21 Parent Association Meeting Schedule" for all meeting information. All are welcome!
