Creative Director Garrett Thompson Named a
2015 VMSD Designer Dozen Award Winner
VMSD magazine’s Designer Dozen awards celebrate 12 up-and-coming designers age 35 years or younger who are driving the future of retail design. Winners are selected from design firms and retail organizations across the country, highlighting the retail design industry’s best and brightest young talent.
We are proud to anounce that our Creative Director, Garrett Thompson, was selected for the 2015 VMSD Designer Dozen. Garrett's unique design sense, creative flare, and overall tireless work ethic make him the extraordinary designer that he is. Managing the team here at Richardson and meeting constant project deadlines, he simultaneously strives to be the best mentor possible for younger designers at the firm. A 2006 graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Art in their Interior Design program, Garrett interned with Richardson Design as a student and worked at Interbrand-Design Forum in Dayton upon graduation. He returned to Richardson in 2011 as Creative Director, where he leads the team under the direction of Scott Richardson, Principal Designer and Garrett's former CIA instructor.
Garrett resides in Strongsville with his wife Megan and dogs Rachel and Zephyr. He is actively involved in the Muttley Crue Rescue based out of Berea, Ohio, a pit bull rescue dedicated to rescuing homeless, death row, and owner surrender dogs (which also takes in any breed). His creative ability extending far beyond the workday, Garrett creates artwork for the charity to raise money at auctions and events.
The award winners were celebrated at an event held in their honor last month at GlobalShop in Las Vegas. They also appear in this month's April issue of VMSD magazine, available here, showcasing each designer profile. Congrats Garrett!
Pantone’s 2015 color of the year
Marsala, Pantone’s 2015 color of the year, is an earth red-brown color that can mix well into a variety of styles. Richardson Design’s trend and style guru, Kristie Oldham, has illustrated three inspiration pallettes which incorporate the color.
Marsala Lux - Palette of luxury, crisp whites, creams and shades of marsala creates a high contrasting look accented with bright golds and copper with a play of matte and high gloss finishes. {Bold and luxurious}
Marsala Modern - Palette of matte whites and natured inspired neutrals balance well with the earthy red undertones of Marsala. Crisp pastel accents provide a playful feel. {Soft and organic}
Marsala Urban - Palette takes on a masculine, vintage feel. Marsala acts as a grounded neutral, it’s rich earthy boldness pairs well with dark rich navy, teal, black and accents of copper and steel. {Moody and masculine}
IIDA Cleveland Akron Product Runway 2015
We were very proud to be a sponsor of last Friday's Product Runway competition held in The Cleveland Museum of Art's striking atrium space. Team Richardson envisioned a pop art themed ensemble, made entirely of wallcoverings from sponsor DL Couch. Our model Kayla Mehalic and the rest of the Product Runway team did an amazing job executing their vision, and the event was nothing short of a success with all proceeds going to support Providence House of Cleveland. Check our continuous social media updates for more pictures of our design and the event. Congrats to all the participants and this year's award winners and a special thank you to Garrett's wife Megan Thompson of E/M Salon for doing Kayla's fabulous hair and makeup!
We hope you enjoy the quarterly installments of our company e-newsletter. For continuous news and updates, follow us on the social media outlets below and visit the news section of our website at richardsondesign.com/news.
Sincerely,
Scott Richardson
