NAM Medical Student Awards

Congratulations to the Meharry Medical College and Vanderbilt University School of Medicine Class of 2025!
Each year, the Nashville Academy of Medicine presents two prestigious awards to honor exceptional graduating medical students:
The Dr. Dorothy Lavinia Brown Award recognizes outstanding medical leadership, education, and civic involvement. The 2025 recipient, Sachin Sanam, has demonstrated exemplary character and leadership, with a strong commitment to service and community advocacy. The award was presented by Dr. Carl Willis, NAM’s Board Chair, at Meharry’s Honors and Awards Ceremony.
The Dr. Tom Nesbitt Award acknowledges achievement in education, socio-economic, and legislative affairs. The 2025 recipient, Neha Aggarwal, has shown exceptional dedication to both NAM and Vanderbilt, holding leadership roles and contributing meaningfully to the medical community. The award was presented by Dr. Jonathan C. Nesbitt, son of Dr. Tom Nesbitt, MD, at Vanderbilt Class Day.
Both awardees exemplify the Nashville Academy of Medicine's values and our shared commitment to supporting the next generation of physician leaders.

TMA Legislative Committee Accepting Submissions for 2026 Policy Agenda

The TMA Legislative Committee will begin the process of determining the association's policy agenda for the 2026 legislative session on Friday, June 6, 2025 at 10:00am CT at TMA headquarters. The meeting is open to all members. Those interested in attending in person should RSVP to Kirk Cunningham at kirk.cunningham@tnmed.org.
Members may also submit issues to consider as policy priorities in the coming year. The Legislative Committee prioritizes issues based on a number of factors, including, but not limited to, composition of key committees, bills that passed recently, opposition of stakeholders, fiscal impact to the state and overall feasibility of passage.
For those interested in submitting an issue for consideration, please fill out the form linked below and sent to Kirk Cunningham.
Regardless of whether you plan to attend the meeting in person to present your issue, the form should be completed as thoroughly as possible to ensure the Legislative Committee has the necessary information to make a determination.
For questions, contact TMA's Vice President of Government Affairs, Julie Griffin, at julie.griffin@tnmed.org
