Clerk's Office Posts Unclaimed
Checks List for 2015
The 2015 Unclaimed Checks list is out and it may make you feel like Christmas in August or spark a feeling of surprise, like when you discover a few extra bucks in your pants’ pocket.
The Clerk's Office has released its annual Unclaimed Check’s list and it's possible that your name may be on the list. But you only have a few weeks left to check to see if you have unclaimed money with our office. According to Section 116.21, Florida Statutes, you must contact the Clerk's Office before September 1, 2015 to collect money due. If you do not, the funds will be forfeited, which means they will ultimately go to the state.
The list consists of people who have unclaimed checks issued by the Clerk's Office in the course of
court-related activities. The list includes uncashed jury checks, vendor payments and cash bonds. Amounts range from $5.00 to $5,000.
To see if we are holding uncliamed funds in your name, visit www.myorangeclerk.com to search the list.

The Clerk's Back to School
Drive is in Full Swing
The Clerk’s Back to School Drive just kicked off this week, but we've already received numerous donations for students in Orange County.
The Drive, which will benefit six local public schools and runs through August 14th, is something many deputy clerks had been preparing for by putting their artistic talents to use to help spread the word.
“We decorated three cardboard boxes and posted flyers in our lobby area to encourage donations," said Special Projects Coordinator Jaya Misir. “We even collected quite a bit of school supplies before the official drive began.”
The donation boxes, many decorated by deputy clerks, have been placed in the downtown courthouse and in all of our branch locations.
School supplies needed include dry erase markers, glue sticks, crayons and more. An expanded wish list can be found at www.myorangeclerk.com
“I am super excited about this drive,” Jaya said.  "I want to collect as much as I can for these kids. Every bit helps. Whatever it is, it’s one less item a parent has to buy.”
The schools benefiting from the drive are Phyllis Wheatley Elementary School, Ocoee Elementary School, Jackson Middle School, Fern Creek Elementary School, Lee Middle School and Memorial Middle School.

my eClerk: The First 30 Days
It’s hard to believe that our new my eClerk website has already been online for more than a month. I am pleased to report that after a very busy launch and a few technical challenges, the site is performing seamlessly. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that after being live for one month there have been nearly 6 million case views and more than 1 million documents viewed.
As impressive as those statistics are, it’s the site’s functionality and the work of the project team that stand out to me. Following the launch, the project team has continued to make improvements to the site. Two recent upgrades include the ability to print the full docket listing and the option to filter search results by Date of Birth
I hope you will continue to share your feedback as we work to make my eClerk even more user-friendly.

Florida Clerks of Court Scramble After
Last-Minute Budget Cut
Many of you may be aware of recent moves by the Florida legislature that resulted in a collective budget deficit of more than $22 million for clerks statewide for the remainder of the current fiscal year. That equates to a 5 percent cut for clerks across the board.
The effects of this budget cut are as deep as they are varied. Many clerks' offices have been forced to cut hours, services, or even worse, staff.
In Orange County, the 5 percent cut totals $1.4 million. That's a significant cut to be sure, but one I hope we will be able to absorb based on our conservative budget approach. My greater concern is the upcoming budget for 2016, which will likely contain further cuts and require all clerks' offices across the state to tighten their belts even more.
A recent Florida Bar news article puts the clerk's budget issue into clear focus by explaining how we arrived at this crossroad and what may happen to the court system if relief is not provided. I encourage anyone interested in this issue to read the article.
I hope to have better news to share when the 2016 budgets are finalized in September.
