Building REED: Navigating the End-to-End Challenges of Developing an AI-Powered Dialogic Reading App
Wednesday April 1 | 12p-1p | 1400 18th Ave S A2009
Have you ever wondered what it actually takes to turn an exciting new idea for a learning technology into a viable product in the world? This week, Abbie Petulante, a Postdoctoral Research Scholar in Data Science here at Vanderbilt will take us through the development journey of REED, an AI-powered app that generates interactive questions from children's picture books to support dialogic reading between caregivers and children.
She will cover the end-to-end challenges of building an educational AI product, from fine-tuning multimodal models to generate pedagogically grounded questions, to navigating the practical realities of app development, publisher partnerships, and iterating with real users.
Join us Wednesday. Pizza and drinks provided.
