From the Editors
The Feldenkrais Method® of somatic education is often presented as a gentle and exploratory self awareness practice that has things in common with meditation or other somatic practices like Yoga, it is less common for it to be presented as a way of developing new skill that can be used in high level sports performance or even during extreme sports.
In this edition we explore some of the ways that the Feldenkrais Method can be used by athletes, sports people and 'weekend warriors' to help them recover from persistant injuries, develop a better understanding of themselves to overcome existing limitations, and find new possibility and potential in their movement. To help them get closer to the elusive idea of peak performance.
We have interviews with Feldenkrais® trainer Jeff Haller, an Aikido black belt and ex-basketball player, and assistant Feldenkrais trainer Rich Goldsand, both of whom have worked extensively with althetes across various sports during their time as Feldenkrais teachers. They bring a unique perspective on how the Feldenkrais Method can be useful within the context of high performance.
We also have an articles from Cynthia Allen and Michelle Drerup, Cynthia explores some of the ways in which Feldenkrais could be a fun addition to any extreme sports junkies movement diet, and Michelle writes about what makes the Feldenkrais Method so good for anyone trying to improve their athletic performance.
It's an action packed edition!
