DECEMBER VOLUNTEERING
Winter is coming!
Hello Garbage to Garden Volunteers!

December snuck up on us this year! This month we hope you will join us at our shop to help us prepare for winter with some end of year activities. We are also looking for volunteers to help shovel out their neighbors, teach cooking and nutrition to Portland elementary students, help students compost at Bath Middle school and Kaler Elementary, and work a shift at Wayside's Holiday Food Drive.

To sign up for an event this month and receive a month of free Garbage to Garden service, RSVP by email and be sure to sign in at your event! Remember, events are first come, first serve.

December's volunteer orientation will be held on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at 5:30pm at Garbage to Garden HQ at 57 Industrial Way in Portland. Email Phoebe to RSVP.

As always, happy composting!

Help Schools Compost!
M-F Dec 4-22, 2017
10am-1pm
Bath Middle School, Bath
Garbage to Garden works with dozens of schools in Southern Maine. We need volunteers to help us educate students about how to compost at their school and why composting is COOL!
Compost Bagging

*Weather permitting* We are working hard to squirrell away compost during the first two weeks of December before we put the operation on hold until the Spring. We no longer bag the compost by hand, so volunteers will be asked to tie and stack bags of compost. Compost bags are about 10-15 lbs each and the activity requires lifting and bending. Wear boots, bring gloves and whatever else you need to stay warm and comfortable!

Other Shop Help - Bucket Brigade!
We are picking up a truck-load of buckets next week and we could use some help de-boxing buckets and stickering buckets and lids, among other tasks like painting around the shop.
Give us a call or email below to schedule a time to come in and volunteer at our shop.
SPECIAL VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Cooking & Nutrition Classes for Kids with Cultivating Community
December 20, 2017 - Orientation
Portland Elementary Schools
Want to support kids learning about, making, and tasting healthy foods?  Sign up for a 6-week volunteer opportunity (starting in January) to support Cultivating Community during winter cooking & nutrition classes at Portland Elementary Schools. Volunteers will assist the lead teacher during hands-on class with students, and get to do some teaching themselves!
Those who sign up will attend the volunteer orientation meeting on December 20th from 6-7pm for full details and training on the program.  The commitment is one or more hours a week (depending on your availability!) for the 6-week series.
Garbage to Garden will provide 3 months of volunteer credit beginning next month for any GtG volunteers who commit to the whole series of one class.

Help an elderly neighbor this winter
