Learn from Frontline Medical Respite Care Providers Responding to the Novel Coronavirus Epidemic in Our Third Town Hall WebinarThis Friday! | April 10 | 12-1 p.m. CT
| |
The third webinar in our Town Hall series will explore the role of medical respite care in community response to COVID-19. While respite programs are uniquely positioned to provide care for people without homes when they are sick, programs nationwide are working quickly to adjust their practices to meet the evolving needs of their communities.
Additionally, providers are working to expand the medical respite model beyond the four walls of their program and into hotel rooms, dorms, and convention centers. Respite providers from Seattle, WA, and Durham, NC, will speak to these challenges and the roles they’ve played in helping their cities build client-centered quarantine facilities. Please join us!

New Issue Brief: COVID-19 & the HCH Community: Needed Actions from Public Health and Emergency Response Systems
| |
The COVID-19 pandemic requires an unprecedented infectious disease response from public health and emergency response systems, which must plan for the needs of people without homes across the U.S. Disproportionately older, often chronically ill, and rarely able to socially distance, this population is at very high risk. They must be prioritized in a public health response that extends beyond the capacities of HCH programs and homeless service organizations.
Complementing our earlier publication, this issue brief outlines the critical actions that public health authorities and emergency response systems must take to protect homeless populations from COVID-19, as well as some strategies being implemented and the federal guidance that is currently available to assist the effort.
