Research News

From the Associate Dean of Research

I'm delighted to announce this year's CPH pilot research funding program. The CPH pilot program provides seed funding to stimulate research activity, underscoring our commitment to pioneering investigations and impactful scholarly pursuits. We encourage you to submit your applications. The deadline for submission is Feb. 15. Awards will be made by April 1 and extend for 12 months. The CPH pilot awards will support the direct costs of research, such as laboratory experiments, field studies, data collection, or data acquisition. Investigators may request up to $30,000; in all, approximately 8 awards are anticipated. Details on how to apply and on the review process are available here. My sincere thanks goes to the CPH Faculty Research Committee for helping to revise the pilot program and guidelines.
In addition, you may request short-term GRA stipend support for a single semester or summer. The GRA must be a registered student. Please explain how the GRA assignment will stimulate your research and how it has the potential to grow subsequent external support. Faculty with existing start-up funds should further elaborate on how the GRA and start-up funds will tie together. A total of 10 requests can be considered. Requests can be made directly via email to me (aevanscu@gmu.edu).
The Department of Defense Office of the Under Secretary for Research & Engineering is now accepting applications for their HBCU-MI Summer Faculty Research Fellowship. This program aims to strengthen the collaboration between the US Department of Defense and STEM faculty. MI stands for Minority Institution which includes Mason. Faculty must be US citizens to qualify. Note that this collaboration includes Walter Reed Army Institute of Research which has a rich array of health, behavioral health, and infectious disease-related research projects. Application details are here. The deadline is January 31, 2024.
NIH is calling all early-stage investigators! Submit a letter of interest for the 2024 NIDA Diversity Scholars Network (NDSN) Program. The goal of the NIDA Diversity Scholars Network Program is to enhance the funding success of ESIs from diverse backgrounds, including investigators from underrepresented groups. The program provides workshops and supportive coaching as participants prepare a complete research or career development award application for NIDA funding consideration. The deadline to apply is January 12, 2024. More information about eligibility and how to submit a letter of interest can be found on the NDSN website. The website also contains a recorded webinar and FAQs. Reach out to Isabela Ellenwood (Isabela.Ellenwood@nih.gov) if you have any questions.
Congratulations to our CPH faculty who submitted 44 proposals for funding so far this academic year. We wish you good luck on your submissions.
