With a gift from The Coca Cola Company, Notre Dame’s Urban Poverty and Business Initiative is helping underrepresented populations create and grow independent businesses. Created by Michael Morris, professor of the practice at the Keough School, the initiative combines structured business training, consulting, access to capital, and shared research to drive economic mobility.

Joseph E. Capizzi, dean of the School of Theology and Religious Studies at the Catholic University of America, has been appointed the McGrath-Cavadini Director of the McGrath Institute for Church Life, effective July 1.

Capizzi will succeed John Cavadini, who led the institute for the past 25 years and will return to full-time research and teaching in the Department of Theology.

Lee Haines, associate research professor, biological sciences, is the subject of one of the five winning images of scientist at work in Nature magazine. The photo was taken by fifth-year Ph.D. candidate in chemistry Shayanta Chowdhury. 

The findings highlight opportunities to reduce childhood stunting through policy interventions that address socioeconomic inequality while strengthening maternal education, sanitation, and household resilience in poorer communities.

During the week of April 13–17, Mendoza College of Business held its third annual Mendoza Community Outreach Blitz, packing each day with opportunities for faculty, staff, and students to support the local community. Projects ranged from gardening and organizing donated items to making blankets and signing postcards.
