Happy New Year! We are looking forward to welcoming students back to in-person instruction next week. More details about the winter quarter return-to-campus process can be found below, along with additional campus updates and highlights.

Outwitting Omicron

Graduate student Zach Aralis develops a rapid test for the COVID-19 Omicron variant, giving local Santa Barbara County hospitals and clinics a boost in their efforts to get ahead of Omicron. Learn more about the new lab test.

UC Santa Barbara Magazine

Introducing UC Santa Barbara Magazine, a new print and online magazine offering a birds-eye view of our spectacular seaside university. From the people, programs, and scholarly pursuits that make UC Santa Barbara a world-class institution, to the sports, arts and culture, natural environment, and vital student and alumni communities that enrich our campus experiences and beyond. Announcements

Return to winter quarter on-campus instruction
As Chancellor Yang reaffirmed in his January 21 email to the UCSB community, in-person instruction will resume on January 31. Please encourage your student to review the checklist of requirements to attend in-person classes, developed by the COVID-19 Response Team and Student Affairs. Additional details regarding Omicron, classroom transmission modeling, and return to campus were sent to students in a January 26 email. Read the full email. Students were also sent a January 29 communication with reminders regarding how to access campus resources and prepare for a successful return to campus.
COVID-19 Booster Clinic
UCSB's partnership with the Santa Barbara County Public Health Department to provide COVID-19 booster shots for the community at Embarcadero Hall in Isla Vista will be extended through the month of February. Appointments can be made through MyTurn.
COVID-19 Information Page
Community members can check the campus’s COVID-19 Information page to keep abreast of any new developments or updates to policies and protocols. The UCSB COVID-19 Call Center is also available for general questions by email at ucsb-covid19@ucsb.edu, or by phone at (805) 893-3113 weekdays from 8am to 4pm.

2022-23 Housing Resources

Many students are currently making housing plans for the 2022-23 academic year. UCSB's Housing, Dining & Auxiliary Services is offering Virtual Rental Fairs to help with this process! Additionally, the application process for continuing students who wish to live in on-campus housing next year will open February 28 and close March 10 at 4pm on the Housing website.
