This morning, the Brebeuf community gathered for the student-panel led All-School Diversity Dialogue on American Muslims put together by senior, Umayr Shaikh.

Brebeuf was blessed to have Rima Khan Shahid, Executive Director of the Muslim Alliance of Indiana and Hazem Bata, Secretary General of the Islamic Society of North America join our student panel and present during this thought-provoking and reflective dialogue.

When asked what he hoped the dialogue achieved, Umayr said, "I hope the students were able to find some answers to their questions.  I also hope they were able to find the courage to ask the difficult questions because those questions are what everyone wants to know."

A special thank you from the Brebeuf Jesuit administration goes out to Umayr for thoughtful leadership, which will be missed as he graduates this spring.

Lastly, one more special thank you to Umayr's mom, Asima, who surprised everyone by providing delicious cookies for all to enjoy after the dialogue.

Loves About Brebeuf
What I love about Brebeuf is the amount of time that we are given outside of class to manage ourselves and our homework. I enjoy the freedom of being able to have two breaks.  This allows me to have more options in taking the more difficult math and science courses that I enjoy, such as Vector Calculus or AP Physics C.
Favorite Class
I would have to say my favorite class would be Calculus BC with Mr. Kelaghan. I’ve learned so much more about calculus, and it has been a really calming and fun class. I really like the way Mr. Kelaghan teaches and the way he explains calculus so well.
Future Plans
I have not decided on which university I want to attend next year, but I would like to study mechanical engineering at either Purdue, Princeton, or Cornell. After college, I’m not quite sure what career I want to pursue, but I do know I want to go into some form of engineering.
Teams & Co-Curriculars
Crew Team
Eagle Scout in Boy Scouts
Engineering Projects in Community Service Club
Percussionist in Wind Ensemble
Ignatian Scholars
National Honors Society
Random Facts
I was an Irish Dancer for 11 years and competed in several competitions around the country for it.
I am an avid collector of National Parks Stamps, and have over 70 stamps from different National Parks, National Monuments, etc.
What has been your favorite Brebeuf experience or most memorable moment so far?
I think my most memorable moment was going to Europe with Mr. Hoernemann and a small ensemble from the school band. We toured Switzerland, Italy, and France. I got to go bike riding in the Swiss Alps with my friends, go swimming in the Cinque Terre, and tour around Milan, among other things. It was one of the most memorable trips I have taken in my lifetime, and I was so thankful for the ability to be able to go with my friends and my family, and learn so much about the people over there.
