On behalf of the Brebeuf Jesuit faculty and staff, have a safe and enjoyable Holiday Break!

Looking forward to seeing you and your family this Saturday for the Family Mass.

This will be the last InDepth for 2015 so look for a new edition at the start of next semester. See you in 2016!

Daily Mass Will Have a New Start Time in 2016 - 7:30 a.m.

Beginning Tuesday, January 5, 2016 through the end of the school year, Daily Mass in the Brebeuf Chapel will begin at 7:30 a.m., rather than 7:45 a.m. as it has been done in the past.

Please note: The doors to the front lobby will be unlocked at 7:25 a.m.

Network Maintenance Over Break

Over Christmas Break, the IT department will be performing some scheduled maintenance and installing some new hardware onto the network.
Due to this, the network will be taken down for two days, Sunday, December 20 – Monday, December 21.
During these two days, please note that it will be difficult to reach Brebeuf Jesuit employees and they may not respond immediately. We appreciate your patience!

Student Spotlight

EMILY POOLE '16
Loves about Brebeuf:
I love the teachers because they are always here for the students and you really have a friendship with them.
Favorite Class:
My favorite class was honors anatomy. It was challenging, but so interesting! The dissections and activities we did were my favorite.
Future Plans:
I plan to go into nursing. I have not decided on a college, but I hope to one day work in an impoverished area as a nurse.
Teams & Co-Curriculars:

Lacrosse
GSA club
French club
Kriya club
RAK club
Random Fact:
My rapper name is Poolesofcash.
Is Brebeuf as academically rigorous as they say?
I can honestly say Brebeuf is most definitely as rigorous as they say. As challenging as the classes are, the teachers work so hard to help us in any way possible.
Would you rather…
Go to the movie theater or stay home with Netflix?
Most definitely stay home and watch Netflix. No need to be around people when I've got my stuffed animals.
Vacation in Hawaii or Alaska?
Alaska because I hate the beach and I love hiking. I've always wanted to visit Alaska.
Watch TV or read a book?
I'd rather watch TV because, despite my love for books, they make me fall asleep.
Travel by sailboat or cruise ship?
Travel by sail boat because big boats scare me. Maybe my ancestors on the titanic subconsciously warned me about big boats.
Go forward in time or back in time?
I'd rather go back in time and relive the past and leave the future a mystery.
Favorite Christmas Movie?
White Christmas because I always watch it with my mom or my grandma every year.

Dr. Suniya Luthar

Dr. Suniya Luthar Visiting Brebeuf Jesuit to Present: The Mental Price of Affluence

Dr. Suniya Luthar writes, “Evidence suggests that the privileged young are much more vulnerable today than in previous generations.” In particular, upper-middle class families are more likely to have higher rates of depression, anxiety, and substance abuse. The pressure to get good grades, play sports, and get into the best colleges can be overwhelming. While stress can be important to show how hard students are working, it is also important to consider the negative impacts.
Dr. Suniya Luthar is a Foundation Professor of Psychology at Arizona State University and Professor Emerita at Columbia University’s Teachers College.  She has conducted extensive research on children in affluent communities that has earned national attention and recognition.
On Monday, January 25, 2016 Brebeuf Jesuit will be hosting Dr. Luthar for her presentation – The Mental Price of Affluence – in an event co-sponsored by Cathedral High School and St. Richards Episcopal School. Dr. Luthar will be speaking to parents and guardians about her findings, the pressures facing economically advantaged students, and discussing ways to help students.  All Brebeuf Jesuit, Cathedral, and St. Richard’s Episcopal families are encouraged to attend this event, join the discussion and learn more about helping students.
Event: Speaking of Psychology: The Mental Price of Affluence
Who: Dr. Suniya Luthar, author of Developmental Psychopathology: Perspectives on Adjustment, Risk, and Disorder; Resilience and Vulnerability in Childhood: Adaptation in the Context of Adversities
When: Monday, January 25, 2016 at 6:30 p.m.
Where: Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School, Room: Auditorium

2015-2016 Brebeuf Jesuit Athletic Program

Sponsored by the Brebeuf Jesuit Dads Club
As has been done for several years running, the Brebeuf Dads Club is sponsoring the production of a printed athletic program to be distributed at home athletic events. The program is issued three times per year - Fall, Winter and Spring.
The athletic program at Brebeuf is made possible in large part due to the generosity of parents, alumni, corporate sponsors and friends. Gifts made to Brebeuf Jesuit on behalf of this effort will be acknowledged with a recognition piece in the athletic program. Generous donors who would like to be a part of the upcoming Winter program can view the giving levels and corresponding recognition piece sizes here.
