In her book Atlas of the Heart, Brené Brown defines "reverence" as “a deeper form of admiration or respect … often combined with a sense of meaningful connection with something greater than ourselves” (24). For the author of Parashat Vaera and the person who posted on social media, reverence is expressed through attributing omnipotence to God. My reverence, on the other hand, takes the form of doubt. Does this mean I don’t believe in God’s presence in the world? I doubt that, too. In these days where safety is something we can only know moment-to-moment, I want to uplift doubt as an expression of faith.

On Monday, February 24 at 7 pm, Hebrew College’s Miller Center for Interreligious Learning & Leadership will host a book launch for Interfaith Photovoice founder and author Roman Williams' new book Sacred Snaps: Photovoice for Interfaith Engagement. Miller Center's interreligious fellowships and activities are significantly enriched by Interfaith Photovoice's visual storytelling tool. "This powerful approach fosters cross-cultural understanding by empowering individuals to share about experiences rooted in diverse faiths and cultures," says Marilyn Stern, Miller Center Director of Special Projects. "We are thrilled that Roman will demonstrate how to harness the power of photography to bridge lines of difference."

Gather, Reflect, Observe and Wrestle with Jewish learning for your lunch hour. Join Tamid of Hebrew College on January 29 at noon Eastern for our next free GROW program with Rav Rachel Adelman, Hebrew College scholar of Hebrew literature, who will teach about contemporary midrashic responses to October 7th. "As God's spirit hovered over the face of the abyss before Creation, so the spirit of Israeli resilience arises from the trauma of October 7th. We will explore new poetry, lament, and midrash written in response to the calamity," explains Rav Adelman. "Our learning also will give learners a taste of my upcoming Atid course: 'Where is the sheep...? Responding to Trauma in Modern Israeli Literature.'"
