Rediscover the joy of voting with the library

Leading up to the election, the Boulder Public Library invites all community members to rediscover the history, significance and joy of voting in our country through our Democracy Series this fall during September and October. From interactive storytimes to insightful workshops, this engaging series will foster community connections as we navigate this election year together

Join or Die: Screening and Community Fair

With an introduction from Chris Barge of the Boulder Library Foundation and Evan Weissman of Warm Cookies of the Revolution, this event kicks off the library’s Democracy Series this fall through October.

Open Call for Makers-In-Residence - Share your expertise at STUDIO 24
|
Apply to be a Maker-In-Residence at STUDIO 24 in the North Boulder Library. Every three months, the makerspace will feature a new theme, led by Makers-in-Residence, community presenters, and staff. Upcoming 2025 themes include printmaking, repair & mending, painting & drawing, electronics, and traditional crafts. Learn more and apply by August 31.

Learn to Play Puzzle Chess

Take your puzzling to a new, competitive level by learning to play Puzzle Chess with puzzle champion Alice Rowe! Puzzle chess is a game where players take turns placing puzzle pieces while keeping track of their time. If you have a phone and can download a chess timer onto it, please bring it to the program. For ages 9-14.

Movie Matinee at Meadows: Tarzan

Watch a matinee showing of "Tarzan" with family and friends. Make a pre-movie craft at 1:30 p.m. The movie starts at 2 p.m. Snacks provided. All ages welcome. 88 mins. Rated G. Closed Captions provided. Movie Matinee at Meadows takes place on the last Saturday of each month.

Volunteers Wanted at Reynolds (Teens Grades 6 – 12)

Reynolds Reading Pals is a weekly program that promotes literacy skills and a love of reading for children in early elementary school in a supportive, fun, environment. Big Pals meet once a week with their Little Pals (grades K-3). Registration required: Big Pals and Little Pals (Mandatory teen training, Monday, August 26, 4:30 - 5:30 p.m.)
Program runs Monday, September 7 through October 21, 4:30 - 6 p.m.
STEAM Pals volunteers lead K-3 students in weekly hands-on STEAM projects during a six-week program. Registration required: Big Pals and Little Pals.
(Mandatory teen training, Wednesday, September 11, 4:30- 5 :30 p.m.)
Program runs Wednesday, September 18 - October 23, 4:30 - 6 p.m.

BoulderReads: High School Equivalency Test Preparation Classes in Spanish & English
|
Se ofrecerán 12 sesiones en Zoom para cada materia por semestre: lectura y escritura, matemáticas, ciencias y estudios sociales. Este semestre empezamos con lectura y escritura. Los materiales de estudio están incluidos. También se guiará a lo(a)s estudiantes a través del proceso oficial para presentar el examen. Lo(a)s participantes deben tener 18 años o más, y vivir en el Condado de Boulder. La clase está limitada a 15 participantes. Regístrate aquí.

Join Coal Creek Adult Education Center and BoulderReads for No-Cost high school equivalency test preparation classes at the NoBo Library. It's time to finish off your high school diploma with an experienced instructor in a small group setting. Additional tutoring support may be available if needed. Registration is limited to 15 students. Participants must be at least 17 years old. Register here.

Reading Buddies: Children's Literacy Program
|
Reading Buddies helps children build a positive and joyful relationship with reading and writing. Children in grades 1-3 are matched with an adult volunteer or University of Colorado student for 10-12 sessions. Each week, Reading Buddies pairs spend 90 minutes playing games, reading books, and writing their own story, while having fun and building confidence.
Registration is required: Little Buddy or Big Buddy (volunteer).
Tuesdays, September 17 – November 18, at Uni. Hill Elementary.
Wednesdays, September 18 – December 4, at Main.
Thursdays September 19 – December 5, at NoBo.
